What is Mission San Luis?
Of the many missions that
were settled in Florida,
Mission San Luis de
Apalachee was a principal
village of the Apalachee
Indians and home of their
most powerful leaders.
Moreover, San Luis was
also Spain’s most
westward military,
religious and
administrative
headquarters. Although a
national historic
landmark, this now living
history museum was once
a mission.

3. The Council House
The Council House at Mission San Luis was one of the largest
historic native American structures ever assembled in the southeast
region of the United States. Houses like these were the focus of the
Apalachee and was their main place of meeting and gatherings.
