Articulating a vision of the future and inspiring others with this vision Providing an Appropriate Model  – Behaving in a manner that is consistent the values the executive espouses and setting an example for other members to follow Fostering Acceptance of Group Goals  – Promoting cooperation among employees and getting them to work together toward the vision/common goal  Providing Individualized Support  – Behaving in a manner that demonstrates respect for members of the organization, and concern about their personal feelings and needs Intellectual Stimulation  – Behavior aimed at challenging others to re-examine some of their assumptions about their work and think about problems in new ways Transactional Leadership Behavior Contingent Reward  – Providing feedback and rewards to others in exchange for their efforts Leadership attributes from Podsakoff et al,, 1990 Key Takeaway Points Method Leadership Attributes Hall of Fame Executive Rankings Biographical information on each Hall of Fame executive was obtained from multiple sources (e.g., newspaper archives, magazine archives, team histories or encyclopedias) Three trained assessors rated each executive on 28 leadership behaviors which roll up into 6 leadership attributes (see  Leader Attributes  section at the right) Rating scale: 1= strongly disagree  to 7= strongly agree For more detailed information please refer to the  handout  adjacent to this poster Hall of Fame executives can be compared  quantitatively  on their  leadership  attributes Three Hall of Fame executives (Foster, Veeck, and Griffith)  consistently scored high on all transformational leadership attributes (rating of 5.25 or above) Rube Foster, William Hulbert, and Warren Giles rated the highest on the overall transformational leadership scale (5.74 or above).  All three had accomplishments beyond the “team” level.
