Laptop• Laptops are devices that have almost the same capabilities of a computer, the main difference is portability.• Laptops are not as powerful as computers, with a slower processer than most computers, and smaller memory.• The reason for this is that to make them portable, they must be easy to carry, therefore most parts are small.
Tablet• This is much like laptops, but smaller.• They have smaller processers, memory etc. than laptops• Tablets are more accessible than laptops, as they can be used out in the open.• It also allows more network capabilities with 3G
Desktop• This has a lot of power, as it does not need portable capabilities like laptops and tablets.• They have larger processers and memory, with more power because of this.• The screen is separated from the rest of the system, and so is the mouse and keyboard.• With them separated from the main system, there is bigger space for larger internal components
Servers• These manages the service in a network• It carries out the requests of the network’s clients• Some servers have more desktop parts than others depending on it’s function in a network• Depending on how many clients use the network, some servers have different speed times
Smartphones• Smartphones work much like tablet, but are slower because of hardware capabilities.• Hardware is much smaller, so to allow this size things would not work as well as they do on tablets.• Network-wise, they have more capabilities in outdoors because of 3G functions on smartphones, which connect in places with no Wi-fi.• They are very accessible as they are pocket-size, so can be taken out to perform tasks at any time.• Battery life is a downside to smartphones, as they only last for a few hours, depending on what is performed on it.
Games Consoles• Game consoles can be used like desktops, but are specifically designed for gaming.• Unlike desktops, they cannot be upgraded to different drivers or adapter cards.• They also have capabilities that computers do not, including motion controls.• They are more designed for families and non- technical people to play games, as they are easier to use to play games than a PC.
Embedded systems• These are systems specifically designed for every-day uses.• They have specific controls, performances etc.• These can be microcontrollers (Chips) or digital signal processors.• Examples can include radios in cars, traffic lights, MP3 players.
