high IVF success rates, Mr Gadela says that it varies from
couple to couple and though various factors influence the
success rate, the quality of the embryo that is chosen for
implantation plays a very crucial role in determining the
chance of conception. “We have in-house embryologists
who are highly skilled and work round the clock enabling
the monitoring and selection of the best embryos for the

IVF process,” he assures. Their dedication, observational

IVF success rates.
The other major factor is the right fertility evaluation of the
couple and the design of highly personalized and specific
treatment protocol by the clinicians that helps in increasing
the rate of conception in the first IVF cycle itself in the case
of many couples. One size will not fit all and hence
customized treatments and medications have to be advised
as per the age of the couple, their medical history, etc.

not planned on the right day. Advanced technology like

lifestyle changes in addition to fertility treatment can act as
a catalyst in improving the outcome.
Spreading the Good News
According to Mr Gadela, many couples’ trend of postpon-
ing parenthood is quite increasing. Women’s biological
clock cannot be rewound and people should know that
fertility tends to decrease with age. The chances of
chromosomal abnormality in eggs increases after a woman
hits her 30s and this can result in miscarriage, genetic
disorders in the child, and many other complications. Social
Freezing can make it possible to have one’s cake and eat it
too. Couples who prefer to delay parenthood can store eggs,
sperms, or embryos, and use those in the future to conceive
through IVF.
Cancer and treatments like Chemotherapy affect fertility
potential. Even cancer patients too can preserve their
fertility before cancer treatment and enjoy the possibility of
parenthood once they are done with cancer treatment. He
believes, “I feel though we have seen a lot of advancements
in this space, not many are aware of these. One of our key
goals is to spread this good news as much as possible.”
His advice to budding entrepreneurs who aspire to venture
into the IVF & Fertility Treatment space is,

asserts.

Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm
Injection (IMSI) and Physiologically Selected
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (PICSI)
Intra-Cytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm
Injection (IMSI) is the procedure in which interference
contrast microscopy at high magnification of 6000X is used
to observe for presence of nuclear vacuoles in sperm head
which is an indicator for increased level of DNA Fragmen-
tation in human spermatozoa/sperm. The sperm which is
morphological best then utilizes for the purpose of micro-
manipulation same as in ICSI procedure.
Physiologically Selected Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection
(PICS) is the procedure based on the fact the mature sperm
head has a specific receptor that allow it to bind to
Hyaluronic Acid (HA), the main component of Oocyte
Cumulus Complex (OCC), this in contrast to immature
sperms do not have this ability to bind HA. It has been
scientifically proved that, sperms that bind to HA have
completed the spermatogenetic process of remodeling the
plasmatic membrane, cytoplasmic extrusion and nuclear
maturity. This eventually results in low level of
aneuploidies and miscarriages. These sperms which are
bound to HA are then selected and utilized for the purpose
of micro-manipulation same as in ICSI procedure.
Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) is a procedure where
vitrified embryos from the previous fresh IVF cycle are
thawed and transferred back to the uterus. The embryolo-
gists freeze the embryos to reduce the risks of multiple
pregnancies by transferring not more than two embryos at
the same time.
Laser-Assisted Hatching (LAH) is the process based on
the presumption of creating artificial openings (slits or
holes) in the zona pellucida (outer covering of embryo),
which aids in assisting the In-Vitro hatching process of
embryos. This technique has been shown to increase
implantation and pregnancy rates in patients with Advanced
Maternal Age, Recurrent Implantation Failure, and Frozen-
Thaw Embryo Transfers, as cryopreservation of embryos
may lead to the zona hardening that may compromise the
hatching and implantation process.
Blastocyst Embryo Transfer, also known as
Advanced/Extended Embryo Culture, extends the embryo
culture cycle of the fertilized embryos for five to six days in
the laboratory. The facility uses Trigas Bench Top Incuba-
tors to provide optimal culture conditions, similar to those
in the womb, for the embryos to grow to the Blastocyst
stage. “This process allows us to select one or two healthy
and most competent embryos for transferring it into the
uterus and achieve better Implantation and pregnancy
rates,” states Dr Nikhil.
