2. COMPONENT 3: Groundtruth Data
Data collection approach
• Collection of groundtruth data using the “new”
sampling frames from component 2 (1km blocks).
• Data from new sampling frames crossed with
shapefile of enumeration areas used by INE.
• High-resolution satellite imagery data secured and
made available to the data collection teams.
• Utilize field boundaries mapped in C2

3. COMPONENT 3: Groundtruth Data
Activities:
• Stakeholder engagement in each province: SDAEs + Community leaders +
higher education institutions (ISPG, Unilurio, ISPM).
• Training of enumerators including pre-test.
• Data types: Detailed mapping of Crop types, areas, farming systems, yield
within each of the 1km block.
• Methods: Using android tablets + ODK + Bluetooth GPS + drones)

4. COMPONENT 3 Groundtruth Data
Activities:
• Survey questionnaires include: (important for component 4)
• Fertilizer use (type, # of applications, quantities)
• Irrigation system used
• Crop varieties (traditional or improved)
• Logistics: Transportation, field work data collection materials, etc
• Timings: Engagement with local stakeholders: October
• Data collection campaigns – starting in November

5. COMPONENT 3: Groundtruth Data
Some questions:
• How to connect with MADER’s data collection operations on the ground
such as IAI or others?
• What main crops we should prioritize?
• We mainly proposed food security crops, including maize, beans, and rice.
