• “The cultural heritage may be defined as the entire
corpus of material signs - either artistic or symbolic -
handed on by the past to each culture and, therefore, to
the whole of humankind.” (source UNESCO)
• This Presentation will establish the most significant cultural
heritage contributions to the world that originated in the
UK
What is Cultural Heritage?
Cultural Heritage | Tangible | Intangible | Natural Heritage | Conclusion
___________________________________________________________________________________________
• “To establish what went into the time capsule an
evaluation was made based on personal experiences,
academic courses and journals, anecdotal evidence
from peers, and the media.
• Personal experiences had the highest level of weighting,
living in Canada and spending time in highly differing
cultures such as Cuba has allowed me to see what
cultural heritage from the UK has spread worldwide
The Time Capsule
Cultural Heritage | Tangible | Intangible | Natural Heritage | Conclusion
___________________________________________________________________________________________
• “Tangible heritage includes buildings and historic places,
monuments, artifacts, etc., which are considered worthy
of preservation for the future.” (UNESCO)
Tangible Heritage

The Castles of the UK
Castles are a huge Cultural attraction for the UK and signify a large
part of global heritage: the medieval period
Castles are
considered
to be one
of the most
picturesque
types of
building
Cultural Heritage | Tangible | Intangible | Natural Heritage | Conclusion
Stonehenge
A hugely
important
Cultural Site
built between
3000 – 2000 BC
Illustrates the
legacy of a
culture that
left no written
records
Purpose of the site: Various theories exist as to why Stonehenge was built
including religious purposes by the druids, an early astrological calendar and
even an ancient brewery

• “Intangible Heritage includes but not limited to traditional
festivals, oral traditions, oral epics, customs, ways of life,
traditional crafts, etc.” (source UNESCO)
• As intangible heritage cannot be physically placed in a
time capsule various items that represent aspects of
intangible heritage will be used

The Magna Carta
Represents the

UK contribution to Engineering
The Mini Cooper

become
embedded in
our everyday
lives: from our
cars to our
houses
The UK kick started engineering innovation during the industrial revolution
and has continued to develop faster, more efficient processes and
products that are used worldwide
UK still at the
