5. WHAT IS POLLUTION?
Definition:
When Harmful Substances Contaminate the Environment it is known as Pollution.
Pollution refers to the very bad condition of environment in terms of quality and
quantity.
7. AIR POLLUTION:
• Air pollution is the mixture of solid particles and gases in the air,
e.g Smog , fog etc.
8. WATER POLLUTION:
• Any change in the physical ,
chemical or biological properties
of water that will have a
detrimental effects on the living
organisms in water is called water
pollution.
9. LAND POLLUTION
• Land pollution is the
detoriation (destruction) of
the earth’s land surfaces,
often directly or indirectly as
a result of man’s activity and
their misuse of land and
resources.
12. Major sources of air pollution are:
Industries
Automobiles and domestic fuel
Sulphur dioxide emitted on burning of fossil
fuel is one of the major causes of air
pollution.
13.
14. When we burn fossil fuel, it release a lot of gases into the air causing air pollution
15. EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION:
Air pollution effects :
Human health
Animals
Plants
The atmosphere as a whole
According to WHO report air pollution
in 2012, caused the deaths of around
7 million people worldwide.
22. CAUSES OF WATER POLLUTION:
• The physical disturbance of land due to
construction of houses, industries, roads, etc.
• Chemicals pollution from industries.
• Inadequate sewage collection and treatment.
• Litter which causes disease and has negative
visual impact.
23. EFFECTS OF WATER POLLUTION:
• About 40 % of deaths
worldwide are caused by
water pollution.
• The main effect caused by
water pollution is the it kills
organisms that depend on
these water bodies.
• Dead fish , crabs , birds , and
dolphins and many other
animals often wind upon
beaches ,killed by pollutants
in their habitat (living
environment).
24.
25.
26. CAUSES OF LAND POLLUTION:
• Land pollution is a major problem around the world and caused by variety of factors.
• Some of the main Causes of land pollution include:
• Deforestation
• Consequent erosion
• Agriculture
• Industry
• Mining
• Illegal dumping of waste
• Urbanization and construction
27. EFFECTS OF LAND POLLUTION:
• As land pollution and soil erosion progress,
animals are forced to shift habitats and adapt to
new conditions, which increases the risk of
extinction.
• The potential effects of soil contamination on
human health include:
• Breathing disorders
• Birth defects
• Skin diseases
• Cancer
29. WHAT IS PREVENTION:
• Preventation is an activity that reduces or eliminates
waste at the source instead of treating the waste after it
is generated.
31. 1. CONSERVE ENERGY AT HOME ,OFFICES , EVERYWHERE.
2. USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT INSTEAD OF OWN CARS,
BIKES, ETC.
3. USING ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY PAINTS AND CLEANING
PRODUCT
32.
33. 8 . Adapt the 3Rs of solid waste management:
Reduce, Recycle , Reuse.
9. Inorganic materials such as metals, glass and
plastic ; also inorganic materials like paper,
can be reclaimed or recycled.
34. 10 . Create your green space . Value your garden . Plant
more trees and put indoor plants in your homes as they
clean the air provide oxygen and beautify your
surroundings. Thus care for them by protecting them you
protect yourself and your family.
35. MABDATORY REMINDER FROM NASA:
NASA reports that by each year , earth gets hotter by 4
degrees from now on.Himalayan glaciers are melting at a
rapid rate. Our climate is changing drastically and its getting
worst.we must hep fight Global Warming by doing the
following steps:
1. Plant more trees
2. Don’t waste water
3. Use cloth bag and don’t burn platic.
36. •“ One person alone cannot save the plant’s
biodiversity, but each individual’s effort to
encourage nature’s wealth must not be
underestimated.”
(United Nations Environment Programme(UNEP).
