2. What is a digipak?
In order to be able to create our own
digipak, we ought ask the question what it
actually is?
It is a modernistic approach to DC packaging
Allows inclusion of more information about the
band
It adds value to the product
It makes the product special and
personal, the consumer would be more willing
to buy it
3. Digipak – Outside -
Conventions
Artist’sname, same font used throughout
digipak – clear font, large

4. Bruce Springsteen (Outside
Digipak Influence)
We were
Font is quite big and
inspired by
bold, fits the star
the cover –
image of the band –
font should
artist’s name
be similar to
included
ours
Track List (same font
used for continuity);
Sony Music – record
label/logo/name
Barcode
5. Digipak - Inside -
Conventions
Graphic design: visual design,
font/colour/design established on the
front of the digipak is continued on the
inner pannels;
Acknowledgements – if included, in a
short list in very small font
6. What can a digipak
convey?
Artists
use different methods in order to
attract the audience;
Funeral For a Friend’s album cover is a
good example Enigma
created/mystery
Polysemic - intelligent
audience will be Intertextuality –
engaged Rene Magritte’s
painting was used
– graphic design is
form of creativity,
used to market the
band’s image
7. What can a digipak
convey? Hole – “Nobody’s
Daughter” use
“Celebration” by Madonna was controversy – they
inspired by Andy Warhol’s pop art convey a message
painting of Merilyn Monroe – she to their audience,
uses the iconic image, USP; it is an opinion of the
polysemic + satirical – subverts market objectifying
how audiences would read the women
picture
8. First Group Draft
Taking the fact that our
main message is
“recycling “ the old to the
new – regeneration, we
thought that we should
base our digipak ideas on
this main idea in order to
put a clear message
across to the target
audience taking into
consideration the
research
9. On the front cover we wanted to
develop the idea of recycling further
Front Cover and therefore we are using the sign
of recycling, they will be in the
colours of mod – white, blue and red
in order to reinforce the star image
we are presenting –mod subculture
in modern days
Within it we will be having a face,
probably of Simon Cowell whose
eyes and mouth will be ripped out
with the album name “Wasteland”
and the name of the band
“Infernal”; we are signifying that the
band's image is organic rather then
synthetic like the star images created
in “X-Factor” (we were influenced by
the Sex Pistols and their album cover
“God Save The Queen”); “Infernal” is
not main-stream and we think that
synthetic images need to be
renewed;
10. Inside Cover
For the inside cover we
thought of pursuing the idea
of different faces needing to
be “renewed”
We are going to present faces
of famous main-stream
musicians
The fact the faces will be in a
garbage bin, the message of
the band (“Wasteland” –
name of album) will be it is a
waste of the musician's talent
being controlled by the Majors
11. Inside Cover
The other inside cover is
contrasting with the
glamour, famous faces
It is presenting a
garbage metal lid - a
metaphor for “closing”
the faces, they are
being restricted
It gives the digipak a
feeling of completeness
and pursuing of ideas
we set up initicially
12. Back Cover
We wanted to reinforce the
togetherness of the band by using
a live performance picture of
them in the junk yard
Their star-image is clear and the
target audience should be
attracted because their mod style
will be clear (clothes) and the fact
that they are mod/indie band
The influence we had was also
based on the research of real
band covers, such as The Who
that also have used live
performance images
13. Conclusion
Afterhaving done all the research, I
realized that there are a lot of details we
should take into consideration, such as
the conventions of a digipak.
Nevertheless, in terms of the use of
presentation and message I think we are
on the right track by using controversy
and intertextuality (Simon Cowell; the
faces of famous people)
