This document outlines an action research study that aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using action songs to improve the reading skills of remedial pupils in Year One. The study was conducted with 16 remedial pupils who had failed to pass reading assessments. The objectives were to determine if action songs could help pupils achieve reading targets and motivate them to learn to read. Data was collected through pre-and post-tests, questionnaires, and analysis of reading assessments. The study implemented lessons using action songs over 5 sessions then analyzed results to evaluate the approach. The researcher hoped the findings could provide useful insights for teachers on developing remedial students' reading abilities.

EVALUATION ON THE IMPLEMENTATION
OF ACTION SONGS
TO IMPROVE THE REMEDIAL PUPILS’
READING SKILL (YEAR ONE)
2. Introduction
This action research attempts to
investigate the effectiveness of using
action song as an aid in developing the
remedial pupils’ reading skill in teaching
and learning in the classroom. It is also to
see the improvement of pupils’
achievement in basic construct of reading
section in LINUS screening.
3. Problem Statement
The remedial pupils are unable to achieve the
basic construct 1and 2 in reading section of BM
and Math LINUS Screening and were given
remedial treatment in remedial class. These
pupils were also failed to pass construct 1 and
construct 2 in English LINUS screening. This is
due to their low proficiency, lack motivation in
reading and limited exposure to the reading
environment.
4. Aim of the Study
This research aims to see the
effectiveness of action song as the
aids in helping the remedial pupils’
reading skill in teaching and
learning in the classroom.
5. Objective of the Study
a) To find out whether the action song
strategy as aid can help remedial pupils’ to
achieve construct 1 and construct 2 reading
section of English LINUS screening.
b) To find out whether the
implementation of the action song enable to
motivate the remedial pupils to learn how
to read.
6. Significance of the Study
It is important to conduct this research to
find out whether the use of action songs can
improve and develop the remedial pupils’
reading skill. The result of this research
would be useful to English teachers. It also
can be the baseline for other researcher to
do research on developing the remedial
students reading skill.
7. Research Questions
Does action song can help remedial
pupils’ to achieve Construct 1 and
Construct 2 reading section of English
LINUS screening?
Does the implementation of the action
song enable to motivate the remedial
pupils to learn how to read?
8. Research Design
To compare the performance of
the remedial pupils’ after going
through five series of lesson plan
using action in learning teaching
classroom.
10. Sample
16 remedial pupils in SK. Patikang
Laut. These pupils failed to pass
construct 1 and 2 in reading section of
English LINUS screening.
11. Data Collection
Information on remedial pupils will be collected from
the result of the previous English LINUS screening
(test 1 and 2). The pupils’ reading skill competency
was obtained from their performance in the reading
section test.
The main data will be collected through the pre-test
and the post-test. The reading test that will be used in
this research is the English LINUS screening test 2
which consist in form of written test.
The pupils’ motivation on learning how to read will be
collected through questionnaire.
13. Evaluation
This project will be evaluated using the action research
model.
The approach of this evaluation is more on the
measurement:
◦ i) based on students’ performance
◦ ii) statistical analysis, quantitative method and approaches to
evaluation are used exclusively.
◦ Iii) concentrates on measuring achievement at the output
stage.
14. Action Plan
This present research will be implemented into three stages:
i) Pre-implementation
Observation and informal interview will be carried out during the teaching
and leaning reading in the classroom. It is to identify the problems in reading
among the students. Then a set of questionnaire and pre-test will be carried
out to get the baseline marks.
ii) Implementation
Teacher will select and use the reading strategy to overcome the problem.
Students will go through with five series of lessons using Wh-questions
graphic organizer.
iii) Post-implementation
Post-test and project evaluation.
