PLANNING PHASE:
Lesson Topic and Name:_Mean, Median, Mode and Range__________ Content Area (s) Focus: 5.16
Step #1: Facts About the Student Learners
The students have had core lessons on the lesson topic above but are in need of review. Students have completed independent, small group and
guided practice used for assessment but have failed to show that they have mastered the topics.
Step # 2: Objectives and Content (What will
students learn?)
The students will understand the relationship
between numbers, given data sets solve for mean,
median, mode and range solving at least 3
problems from written practice with 100%
accuracy.
Step #3: Products (How will students show success?)
Students will show success through the use of multiple related activities incorporated into
small group and independent work throughout stations being able to solve at least 3 problems
with 100% accuracy from written practice.
Step #4: Process of Instruction (How will students be instructed?)
Instructional Formats: Students will be instructed in the form of stations, using verbal and visual cues.
Instructional Arrangements
All students will receive instruction in the classroom. There will be 4 groups of 5 or 6 in each group. Two of the stations students will be working
with Mr. Raisch or Ms. Migliarese. The other group will be working on independent practice while the other group will be at the break station.
Instructional Strategies:
Using multiple related activities so that the students have the opportunity to learn and solve for mean, median , mode and range using multiple
methods.
Social and Physical Environment
Students will be rotating around the room in four different stations. One of the stations the students are given a break time where they can read or
play a game to give themselves a mental break. Another group will be working independently on written practice. The other two groups will be
working in a small group setting with either Mr. Raisch or Ms Migliarese to strengthen their knowledge of mean, median, mode and range.
