1. Proposal: The Darkness of human emotions
For my experimental photography project I have decided that I will base my subject on
masks and the dark side of human emotions. I believe that everyone has a hidden side to
them that they hide with a mask. The eyes will be the main focus as they can change the
whole expression of a persons face and turn it into something else. I will be exploring the
horror side of emotion and people’s inner sadness. I want to discover the unknown of
people’s emotions and express it though my project. What do people hide behind the mask?
What side to them is real? How deep are their emotions?
I will be using the studio to take my photographs as I can have different lighting and the
models will feel more relaxed. I believe this is the perfect location as it’s appropriate and also
looks professional. And also it makes the image not look as busy as it is just focused on the
models. By choosing the photography studio it gives me a change to create my own location
or mood. I will be using two models for this project and using different props to cover up
different features such as the eyes as they are one of the main features that can change
someone’s expression completely.
The techniques involve using Photoshop but this tool will be used to make my images look
more professional. Multimedia is another techniques that will fit perfect in with the theme of
my photography project. I will use different paints to achieve different effects. Focusing on
the face I will give the photograph a totally different outcome making look more horror and
playing with the features mainly the eyes. After completing the first process I will scan my
image into Photoshop to give it a professional look.
The reason why I have decided to base my experimental photography project on masks it
the emotion behind them. Some things are yet to be discovered. A mask is worn for
protection or even disguise, what are people hiding behind it? This interests me as in to
thinking do people we see everyday might not be real? Do they have a hidden mask they
hide behind? I have based masks as part of my discovery, I will be looking at the dark
human emotion side that some people may hide or disguise.
