Personal Branding
1.
2. This communication piece is targeted to future
potential employers in the beauty industry.
Particularly, I want to grasp the attention of high-end
beauty brand employers and for them to see the
future of their beauty brand in my hands. I want them
to visualize how I could bring their brand values to
life as I do with my personal brand. Additionally,
my target audience also includes persons who have a
passion for cosmetics as well as those that are lovers
of “all things” beauty.
3. My message is to express to my audience how
cosmetics has given me a purpose in following my
dreams. I want to state that cosmetics has made me
feel powerful and in return, I want to uplift the
beauty industry to reach its highest potential with
my marketing skills. The brushes represent my
strength and the dead rose represent any insecurities
and hardships that have allowed me to rise above
any obstacles thrown at me.
4. The image that best explains my message is me
at the center of the photo holding a variety of
cosmetics brushes. Ideally, I want to incorporate
pinks and purples which are my favorite colors.
This will help my audience know that I use
cosmetic brushes in a daily basis and that I love
playing with colors. I will be holding a dead
rose to symbolize the trials and tribulations that
I have gone through to get here. I did not
always know what I wanted my career path to
be, but I have finally found it in Marketing. I
want to have a serious but inspirational face that
shows my determination in anything I set my
mind to. This will show my audience my
character and my ability to maintain focus. The
setting of the photo should be my bedroom
which is the place that I feel most inspired and
most confident in. This will invite my audience
to my personal space where I can express my
creativity and where I plan my future initiatives.
5. After viewing my photo, I want my audience to trust
my ability to complete any goal I set mind mind to.
My audience will learn that the beauty industry gives
me purpose to add my own touch of expertise and
bring it to new heights. I want my my passion for
the beauty industry to show and to use this photo to
reflect my marketing skills. By doing so, it will be
obvious what I can provide for the beauty industry.
Through my photo, my audience will not only get to
know who I am as person but also what I am made
of. They will know that I have used the obstacles in
my life and turned them into beautiful masterpieces.
I want them to know that it is okay to experience
difficulties in your journey because it is all about
what you make of them that truly matters.
6. The photo should be me in the center holding makeup
brushes in a “lifting weights” motion to symbolize that
cosmetics makes me feel powerful and invincible. In my
other hand, I will be holding a dead orange rose. My face
should be looking upward and with a fierce but inspirational
look. I want the details of the rose to show and the texture
of the brushes to be highlighted in the photo, as if it is
coming to life. I want my entire face to show and to feel as
though the brushes and the rose are decorating my face.

9. Let the brushes become the tools of your power
as they adorn you and lift you to your highest
potential.
10. 1. Did the outcome (photograph
+ words) successfully convey
the intended message?
Yes, my photo evidently shows
that I am passionate about the
beauty industry and that I have
the willpower to make anything
possible. My interest for the
beauty industry is shown by
using makeup in the photo as
well as by holding the brushes at
the very top of the photo. The
orange rose on the bottom right,
resembles vulnerability but by
holding the brushes up, it makes
the photo give off a fierce and
invincible message.
2. How do my final image and my words
combine to help convey my message?
What elements of design in the final
project helped to communicate my
message? How?
My final photo and my words help convey
my message because my words talk about
letting the brushes adorn you and lift you
and that is exactly what I am doing in the
photo. The brushes and the rose are both
around my face which gives the message
that they are part of who I am. The
brushes are used to symbolize my
devotion to the beauty industry and the
dead rose shows I am empathetic and kind
inside because of the experiences I have
gone through.
3. How did my project evolve as I
moved through the creative process
How did taking the photo change my
concept or design?
My project evolved after I began drawing
what I wanted the photo to look like. I
knew I wanted me at the center of the
photo, and I was trying to think of what
the background should show. In my
drawing, before the final photo was taken,
I drew the door to my bedroom and my
closet doors. However, in the final photo,
I was able to show my LED vanity light
which added even more appeal to the
beauty industry I am trying to connect
with. By having the lights in the
background, it adds emphasis on applying
cosmetics.
11. 4. What was the most difficult portion
of the project? Why? What could I
have done differently to make this
better?
The most difficult part about this project
was having to take the photo myself. I
used a tripod with my phone camera and
some lighting. It was challenging to
keep the phone at the angle that I wanted
it to. I would have wanted a professional
photographer to capture more of me in
my “natural habitat.” maybe having a
mirror that could reflect me holding the
brushes, but I would have needed a
person taking it for me. I also think
having a professional photographer
would have made the quality even better.
6. What did I learn from this experience?
If I were to start the project over again,
what would I do differently?
By doing this project, I learned to think of
who the message is targeted to and what I
want them to learn. I learned the importance
of not being impulsive in creating a message.
A message must be well thought out and
most importantly the photo, words, and
message must all coincide to mean the same
thing. This is also true of brands. Brands
logos, imagery, and messages must also have
one purpose. If I were to do this project
again, I would consider having someone take
the photo for me so that it is more far away
and more of my persona is shown in the
photo as well as my environment.
5. What was the most satisfying
portion of the project? Why?
The most satisfying part of the
project was reading my 20 words
next to my final photo. I realized
how important it is to have a
visual that represents my words.
By having a photo that reflects
my words, my message is
expressed clearly, and my
audience can understand me. It
was satisfying to see my message
unfold through my photo and my
words together. I am confident
that the project I put together is
meaningful and will inspire others
to use my quote.
