Schools Enabling Life Long Skills (SELLS) is one of the project at KAPE which aims to promote social and financial education for children from aged 13-18.

her study in university.

account at formal bank .
She can save 220,000 Riels
= USD55.00. “I am
extremely happy to access
the formal bank.” she said
Im Sam Ath is a 19-year old
scholarship student funded by
KAPE in Grade 10 at Kor High
School, which is 2 Km away from
her house. She has five siblings.
Her younger brother dropped
out school and is working as
construction worker with little
income.
She has participated the Aflateen
program since February. She attends the financial literacy class two
days a week and learns about knowing oneself, one’s friends, one’s
dreams for the future, as well as saving and spending. She has also
learn a new life skill activity about how to make bracelets as part of a
social enterprise at the school.
“I am extremely happy to be selected to be a leader in a social and
enterprise club, and I can organize, manage and lead the meeting as
well,” she said. They can earn around USD100 from selling bracelet.
Sam Ath hopes to study at the Institute of Foreign Language located
in Phnom Penh, as she would like to be an interpreter in the future.

2. BACKGROUND
Schools Enabling Life Long Skills (SELLS) has launched in 2010, financial
supported by Barclay’s bank. It implements the Aflatoun Child Social and
Financial Education programming to increase children’s awareness of
their rights under the UN convention of the Rights of the Child and
empowers them with skills to take action to claim these rights in Kratie
province.
In 2012-13, KAPE has been granted additional funds from Barclay’s
Bank to implement the new Aflateen program that will focus on older
children enrolled in 10 secondary schools in five districts in Kampong
Cham province, Cambodia.
OBJECTIVE
SELLS aims 1) to empower students
socially and financially , 2) to stimulate
entrepreneurial spirit in secondary school
students 3) to instil a lifelong savings habit
in secondary school students, 4) to raise
awareness amongst the banking sector of
children’s right to access formal banking
products and services, 5) to create
awareness about students’ economic and
social rights.
