To whom it may concern,
Please readthe following prayerfully. God is doing a mighty work through us in
Kenya to provide educationand a quality life to orphans and those children with HIV
or AIDS. We have schoolfor them ongoing now, but we want to be able to do more
than this: pay our staff, pay our rent etc.
Please lift this all up in prayer and we hope God will open the way for you to help us
with ongoing funds… God is going to change a city with His almighty wisdom
working through us.
May God bless you richly,
Yours faithfully

SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE
3
ABOUT THE COUNTRYOF KENYA.
Kenya is a country in Eastern Africa which is bordered by four countries-- to the North is
Ethiopia, east Somalia, west Uganda and to the south Tanzania. Kenya has a total
population of about 50million according to the last census -- with over 50% living below
the poverty line.
Kenya is also known as a tourist attraction with man-made National parks, game reserves
and other attractive physical features. By and large, Kenya is recognized both nationally
and internationally for producing champion world athletes.
However, Kenya is also the country with the second largest slum area after the Soweto
slums in South Africa .
INTRODUCTION:
Alliance Vision Educational Centre (AVEC) is a Christian schoolthat was initiated in
January 2007 and registered in October13th, 2008 with the department of Social Service,
under the ministry of Gender, Sports, Cultural and Social Services as a non- formal four
leveled institution. The humble eight years old A.V.E.C’s only ongoing project is a focused
non-formal urban slum schoolmainly for the growing number of H.I.V/AIDS orphans.
4
To date, the schoolcurrently is being accommodated in rented premises. It has enrolled 250
students in both primary and secondary
The number of pupils enrolled in the schoolhas registered a dramatic growth over the year.
Today, AVEC provides all levels of primary schoolstarting from pre-school through
SecondarySchool. Considering the fact that it all started in a square make shift kiosk in the
same Dandora location, what has emerged is tangible proofthat much has been achieved so
far. Thosein charge of the project’s management and the area’s community have
commendably done a considerable job.
TARGET ZONE AND STRATEGY:
Strategically, the institution is community based in a slum area. Given the fact that the
project’s target zone is predominantly populated by the urban poor, only the Harambee
spirit has the potential to realize the objective within the urban slum set up. This is
particularly so, when the organizing men and women who have no gainful income or who
have been marginalized by poverty can be employed here. This problem is exacerbated
more by the galloping inflation that is hitting the developing nations.
TARGET GROUP:
Alliance Vision Educational Centre targets the destitute urban slum children and the
growing number of H.I.V/AIDS orphans.
OUR VISION
Our vision is to provide quality education by creating all level of primary learning
opportunities for children who cannot otherwise afford the costof accessing the same
elsewhere. This involves a broad spectrum of children and youth and will increase Kenya’s
literacy.
OUR MISSION
AVEC’s mission is to build a permanent community resource [funds, capacity and aspects]
that will increase the extent, effectiveness and efficiency so that young people can take
responsibility for the development of their own community. This means obtaining the
ongoing funds and capacity to put all into play.
5
GENERALOBJECTIVE
The overall objective is to eradicate poverty and to raise the people’s quality of life by
coping with the illiteracy and the lack of skills among Kenyan people. This is to be done by
enhancing the quality and amount of education people can receive as well as give them
training in key skill areas. This will raise the standard of living for many and let them
escapethe poverty cycle.
PROJECTDEFINITION:
The goal is to develop a program that will provide all inclusive education from
kindergarten, Primary, Secondary up to College level for all. The schoolis to be a 4-phase
integrated full circle academic system as well as vocational training project.
PROJECTSCOPE
The project scopeshall address the problems of the urban slum area by:
I] improving literacy
ii] Raising awareness of H.I.V/A.I.D.S
iii] Facilitating human resources capacity
iv) Raising education standards
v) Eradicating unemployment
vi) Enhancing quality of life
6
FUTURE PLANS
1. Besides the immediate aforementioned, this project shall further offer a counseling unit
which will give an opportunity for defiant youngsters to find an outlet for their behaviors in
a therapeutic environment.
2. AVEC will also conductextra-curricular activities to preoccupythe target group which
could forestall or completely stop their indulgence in anti social habits.
3. It is in the plan that the students who are unable to raise or afford schoolfees be offered
bursaries, remissions or scholarships. Fundraising [Harambee] will be done to that effect.
4. As a cumulative survival strategy, old boys and girls (alumni) shall be call on and
encouraged to mobilize and form trade associations to help each other overcome common
social-economic problems or short comings that may hinder their plans/enterprises.
5. The college phase of this project will be a catalyst for self employment-cum-job creation.
The college shall equip the students with enough skills for a better living standard. The use
7
of home-grown expertise is preferable in order to exploit easily available resources. JUA
KALI entrepreneurship into focus and producehighly marketable product.
ADDITIONAL IN PUT AND FUNDS
Among the other key players, there are three (3) board members, two (2) cooks, Two care
takers (2) and Fourteen (14) teaching staff whose noble objective is to be good Samaritans.
In fact, the staff together with the board members is content with any token remuneration
purely out of their own good will and charity.
All the teachers are young men and women who have no gainful income except for
teaching. Nevertheless, even though the schoolis free, it is yet to be full. It cannot involve
itself in the integrated conceptas a complete learning institution from Kindergarten,
primary, Secondary and vocational/ tertiary college until the funds are there to enable it. To
achieve this goal, there is a great need to build a solid backing of funds.
DISCIPLINE AND SEMBLANCE OF QUALITY
So far, discipline and quality tuition are the hallmark of AVEC.
OVERVIEW OF SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS/ IMMEDIATE NEEDS.
1. Schoolfeeding program
2. Schooluniforms
3. Schooltext books/supplies
4. Exercise books/schoolbadge and name printed]

schooland for the promotion of the target group. The immediate implementation and
expansion of this schoolis crucial, but its courseis tied to the availability and adequacy
of the funds and facilities. The situation is dire and, therefore, we are urgently in need of
donorassistance at this preparatory stage of our initiative.
We look forward to benefiting from your prayers, as well as moral, financial and material

Letter of Recommendation from Patricia King-Edwards
To Whom It May Concern,
As I am actually the one who helped George Sera of Alliance Vision Education Centre in Nairobi,
Kenya, put this Business Plan together, I can say without doubt that I stand alongside anything he
chooses to do for educating the slum children of Kenya. Alliance Vision has the appropriate name as
George is a man of vision who can see good outcomes clearly. I hope that this Business Plan will
convince others to share with us in financially supporting such a great cause.
God blessyouall,

Letter of Recommendation from Patrick P. Stafford
To Whom It May Concern:
It has been my pleasure and honor to meet and know George Sera, and work with him in raising awareness
and assistance for his eclectic school Alliance Vision Education Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. George is a
leader, and this is so needed for Alliance Vision. Without him, the school would be lost and so many lives
terribly diminished. George is integral to the Centre’s operation, survival, growth and progress. George
has earned my total trust and confidence. He is an honorable man, a dedicated Christian, and a brave and
caring man. He gives his all for AVEC and to its children. It is truly a privilege to work with George and
know him and call him friend. I want every person to know that he is someone worthy of their complete
trust and total respect.
AVEC, despite its many challenges and tremendous needs, is a bone fide education center and school—
and a godsend to its students and the children it helps and has helped. With George Sera as its leader and
director, I know the school will succeed and continue to provide the vital services it does. It is my
privilege to help. I hope others will too.
Regards,
Patrick P. Stafford

Letter of Recommendation from Brad Weinman
To Whom It May Concern:
Over the past several years it has been both my and my wife’s pleasure to work with Mr. George Sera and
contribute to the Alliance Vision Education Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, for which Mr. Sera is the principal
and a teacher. His Christian school has been in operation for many years and has provided essential
education and tremendous assistance to many hundreds of Kenyan children during that time.
12
George Sera is a very honorable man and his commitment and dedication to Alliance Vision Education
Centre and to his pupils is quite admirable and unsurpassed. Yes, the school is impoverished and always
struggling to stay afloat and survive and most of the school staff work 24/7 to keep the school going and to
give the children an education of the highest quality. This they do even though most the time they receive
no salary and must confront and overcome a host of social and material challenges. However, all of them
are amazing people, and their commitment and dedication is also unsurpassed.
I stay in contact with Alliance Vision Education Centre as often as possible and my wife and I donate time
and money to them whenever we can. Their cause is a very important one, and their school is so necessary
to all the children they reach out to, and provide education and sustenance to, whose lives the school makes
a very positive difference to. I encourage others to help and contribute to Alliance Vision Education
Centre however they can. Although needing a great deal of financial support, the Centre is a very
professional school and of immense benefit to the children and people of Kenya.
Sincerely,
Brad Weinman

  • 3. 3 ABOUT THE COUNTRYOF KENYA. Kenya is a country in Eastern Africa which is bordered by four countries-- to the North is Ethiopia, east Somalia, west Uganda and to the south Tanzania. Kenya has a total population of about 50million according to the last census -- with over 50% living below the poverty line. Kenya is also known as a tourist attraction with man-made National parks, game reserves and other attractive physical features. By and large, Kenya is recognized both nationally and internationally for producing champion world athletes. However, Kenya is also the country with the second largest slum area after the Soweto slums in South Africa . INTRODUCTION: Alliance Vision Educational Centre (AVEC) is a Christian schoolthat was initiated in January 2007 and registered in October13th, 2008 with the department of Social Service, under the ministry of Gender, Sports, Cultural and Social Services as a non- formal four leveled institution. The humble eight years old A.V.E.C’s only ongoing project is a focused non-formal urban slum schoolmainly for the growing number of H.I.V/AIDS orphans.
  • 4. 4 To date, the schoolcurrently is being accommodated in rented premises. It has enrolled 250 students in both primary and secondary The number of pupils enrolled in the schoolhas registered a dramatic growth over the year. Today, AVEC provides all levels of primary schoolstarting from pre-school through SecondarySchool. Considering the fact that it all started in a square make shift kiosk in the same Dandora location, what has emerged is tangible proofthat much has been achieved so far. Thosein charge of the project’s management and the area’s community have commendably done a considerable job. TARGET ZONE AND STRATEGY: Strategically, the institution is community based in a slum area. Given the fact that the project’s target zone is predominantly populated by the urban poor, only the Harambee spirit has the potential to realize the objective within the urban slum set up. This is particularly so, when the organizing men and women who have no gainful income or who have been marginalized by poverty can be employed here. This problem is exacerbated more by the galloping inflation that is hitting the developing nations. TARGET GROUP: Alliance Vision Educational Centre targets the destitute urban slum children and the growing number of H.I.V/AIDS orphans. OUR VISION Our vision is to provide quality education by creating all level of primary learning opportunities for children who cannot otherwise afford the costof accessing the same elsewhere. This involves a broad spectrum of children and youth and will increase Kenya’s literacy. OUR MISSION AVEC’s mission is to build a permanent community resource [funds, capacity and aspects] that will increase the extent, effectiveness and efficiency so that young people can take responsibility for the development of their own community. This means obtaining the ongoing funds and capacity to put all into play.
  • 5. 5 GENERALOBJECTIVE The overall objective is to eradicate poverty and to raise the people’s quality of life by coping with the illiteracy and the lack of skills among Kenyan people. This is to be done by enhancing the quality and amount of education people can receive as well as give them training in key skill areas. This will raise the standard of living for many and let them escapethe poverty cycle. PROJECTDEFINITION: The goal is to develop a program that will provide all inclusive education from kindergarten, Primary, Secondary up to College level for all. The schoolis to be a 4-phase integrated full circle academic system as well as vocational training project. PROJECTSCOPE The project scopeshall address the problems of the urban slum area by: I] improving literacy ii] Raising awareness of H.I.V/A.I.D.S iii] Facilitating human resources capacity iv) Raising education standards v) Eradicating unemployment vi) Enhancing quality of life
  • 6. 6 FUTURE PLANS 1. Besides the immediate aforementioned, this project shall further offer a counseling unit which will give an opportunity for defiant youngsters to find an outlet for their behaviors in a therapeutic environment. 2. AVEC will also conductextra-curricular activities to preoccupythe target group which could forestall or completely stop their indulgence in anti social habits. 3. It is in the plan that the students who are unable to raise or afford schoolfees be offered bursaries, remissions or scholarships. Fundraising [Harambee] will be done to that effect. 4. As a cumulative survival strategy, old boys and girls (alumni) shall be call on and encouraged to mobilize and form trade associations to help each other overcome common social-economic problems or short comings that may hinder their plans/enterprises. 5. The college phase of this project will be a catalyst for self employment-cum-job creation. The college shall equip the students with enough skills for a better living standard. The use
  • 7. 7 of home-grown expertise is preferable in order to exploit easily available resources. JUA KALI entrepreneurship into focus and producehighly marketable product. ADDITIONAL IN PUT AND FUNDS Among the other key players, there are three (3) board members, two (2) cooks, Two care takers (2) and Fourteen (14) teaching staff whose noble objective is to be good Samaritans. In fact, the staff together with the board members is content with any token remuneration purely out of their own good will and charity. All the teachers are young men and women who have no gainful income except for teaching. Nevertheless, even though the schoolis free, it is yet to be full. It cannot involve itself in the integrated conceptas a complete learning institution from Kindergarten, primary, Secondary and vocational/ tertiary college until the funds are there to enable it. To achieve this goal, there is a great need to build a solid backing of funds. DISCIPLINE AND SEMBLANCE OF QUALITY So far, discipline and quality tuition are the hallmark of AVEC. OVERVIEW OF SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS/ IMMEDIATE NEEDS. 1. Schoolfeeding program 2. Schooluniforms 3. Schooltext books/supplies 4. Exercise books/schoolbadge and name printed]

CONCLUSION We place our requests for any or all of the above enumerated items for the benefit of the schooland for the promotion of the target group. The immediate implementation and expansion of this schoolis crucial, but its courseis tied to the availability and adequacy of the funds and facilities. The situation is dire and, therefore, we are urgently in need of donorassistance at this preparatory stage of our initiative. We look forward to benefiting from your prayers, as well as moral, financial and material support. Stafford To Whom It May Concern: It has been my pleasure and honor to meet and know George Sera, and work with him in raising awareness and assistance for his eclectic school Alliance Vision Education Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. With George Sera as its leader and director, I know the school will succeed and continue to provide the vital services it does. It is my privilege to help. I hope others will too. Regards, Patrick P. His Christian school has been in operation for many years and has provided essential education and tremendous assistance to many hundreds of Kenyan children during that time.
  • 12. 12 George Sera is a very honorable man and his commitment and dedication to Alliance Vision Education Centre and to his pupils is quite admirable and unsurpassed. Yes, the school is impoverished and always struggling to stay afloat and survive and most of the school staff work 24/7 to keep the school going and to give the children an education of the highest quality. This they do even though most the time they receive no salary and must confront and overcome a host of social and material challenges. However, all of them are amazing people, and their commitment and dedication is also unsurpassed. I stay in contact with Alliance Vision Education Centre as often as possible and my wife and I donate time and money to them whenever we can. Their cause is a very important one, and their school is so necessary to all the children they reach out to, and provide education and sustenance to, whose lives the school makes a very positive difference to. I encourage others to help and contribute to Alliance Vision Education Centre however they can. Although needing a great deal of financial support, the Centre is a very professional school and of immense benefit to the children and people of Kenya.
