2. Summary of the Book The book, Mexicanos, tells the history of the Mexican culture. It tells how they became religious, what they have been through, troubles with immigration, depression, and struggles they have been through. From reading the book, you gain a sense of knowledge on their history, but mostly understand the experiences they have been through.
3. Eye Opener Throughout the novel, the biggest eye opener was Migration to the US. In the early 1920’s, it was much easier for people to come and go as they pleased. Mexicans came to the US for better job opportunities. They had a bigger advantage than the rest of immigrants because their country is so close that they could come and go. While other people have burned bridges with their previous country.
4. During the Depression During the Depression, many workers lost their jobs. 25% of workforce lost their jobs. People did not want to leave the US because they were hoping that they could find jobs. During the 1930’s, many people moved from rural areas, to major cities to look for job opportunities. Since everyone was in a crisis of money and jobs, people began to get greedy, and started wanting Mexicans to go back to their country. Many people were deported everyday back to Mexico. 1/3 of Mexicans in the United States left and came back to Mexico.
5. The United States Today The United States today still has many people moving North. Since the early 1900’s, it has not become any safer for people crossing the boarders. From history, you would think that history has made a change for present times, but unfortunately that is not the case. About 500 people die each year trying to move to the United States. People still move to the United States for job opportunities.
