2. What's paraffin?
Paraffin wax is a soft colorless solid, derived from petroleum, coal , that consists of a
mixture of hydrocarbon molecules containing between twenty and forty carbon atoms
What's cycloparaffin (napthenes) ?
are the monocyclic saturated hydrocarbons, In other words, a cycloalkane consists only
of hydrogen and carbon atoms arranged in a structure containing a single ring, and all of
the carbon-carbon bonds are single
3. What's olefin (alkene) ?
is an unsaturated hydrocarbon that contains at least one carbon–carbon double bond
What's aromatic?
a cyclic (ring-shaped), planar (flat) molecule with a ring of resonance bonds that exhibits more stability
than other geometric or connective arrangements with the same set of atoms
4. What's aniline?
is an organic compound with the formula C6H5NH2
Consisting of a phenyl group attached to an amino group
the molecule is aromatic
5. Aniline point (AP)
is another characteristic of petroleum fractions that indicates the degree of aromaticity
of hydrocarbon mixtures
Aniline point is defined as the lowest temperature at which equal volumes of aniline
and the sample become completely soluble and miscible (form a single phase)
Why we use aniline to indicate the degree of aromaticity?
Or
Why we use aniline for aniline point?
aniline is also aromatic
Because of their good solubility (like dissolve like)
aromatic structures give the lowest aniline values
Aniline being an aromatic compound freely mixes with aromatics
Method used for determining aniline point of petroleum products is ASTM D 611
7. As amount of aromatics in a petroleum fraction increase the aniline point
decreases. Therefore, the aniline point is a parameter that is highly related
to the hydrocarbon types in petroleum fractions.
Aniline point
1
aromatic
The lower the aniline point, the greater is the content of aromatic compounds in the oil
Aniline point Paraffin
The higher the aniline point, the greater is the content of paraffinic compounds in the oil
Aniline point is used for :
1) Gasoline 2) kerosene 3) gas oil 4) Lub oil samples
8.
9. Aniline point is used to determined:
1) Diesel index : A measure of the ignition quality of a diesel fuel calculated from a
formula involving the gravity of the fuel and its aniline point
2) Cetane no. : is an indicator of the combustion speed of diesel fuel
Aniline point Cetane number
10. How to improvement aniline point?
Its improved by extraction with furfuraldehyde to decrease aromatic contents in petroleum products
