3. An ident comes just before the news headlines are read out. It appears at the very beginning of
the news, it shows a image of a globe in the colour coding of the BBC. On the globe it has
different cities names on it. This convention is extremely useful as it shows the audience that the
news which they are about to watch is not only news from the UK but also from around the globe.
There is also music being played whilst the ident is being shown. The music is very serious and
strident. Strident music fits perfectly with the news as there is a lot of controversy in the news.
