In the opening of Biggie and Tupac I noticed a lot of different convention
they used. They open the documentary with an exposition telling the
audience when the death of biggie and Tupac happened and where it
happened. They started off by showing picture that were taken when the
shooting happened, this convention is called archival footage by using this in
the start they got the audience engaged. In nearly every documentary there
is a visual or verbal of a person describing what the documentary is going to
be about this is a convention in media which is called exposition. In this film
the story is explained briefly at the beginning, some documentary asks a
question which gets the audience thinking. This documentary shows videos of
Biggie and Tupac when they were alive and they also show and explain how
close they are and what happened between them.
The voice over is probably one of the main thing used in documentaries, in
this documentary there was a voice over which was explaining where the
interviews are going and who the person they are about to visit is to
Bigge&Tupac. The voice over would use an authoritative tone which gets the
audience more engaged in the documentary and also using this tone makes
the audience believe that what they’re saying is real.
As there are two types of interviews, in this documentary the one they use is
where they go up to the person and ask them question, both of them are in
the shot interviewer and the person getting interviewed.
At the beginning of the documentary whilst they were showing the picture
you can here police sirens playing, they also have the radio on talking about
the murder of Tupac and biggie. When they were going to interview biggies
and Tupac’s friends they would use urban music. The music they use is urban
music because it suits the genre of the. When going to a different destination
they sometimes use a slow piano playing calmly and the voice over
explaining what they are doing.
