27. AN EMPLOYEE TRANSFORMS INTO AN
EMPLOYER: A CASE STUDY OF AN
AGRICULTURAL GRADUATE OF RANCHI
DISTRICT OF JHARKHAND
27
29. INTRODUCTION
Mr. Vijay Bharat, an agro-technocrat of Ranchi district of
Jharkhand
A trend setter, a path finder and a motivator for the agricultural
graduates who wish to go for entrepreneurship.
He obtained his B.Sc.(Ag.) degree from Bihar Agricultural
College, Sabour in 1996.
After graduation he did not vie for government job, rather he
preferred to join PRADAN, a reputed NGO.
Joined M.Sc.(Ag.) at RAU, Bihar, Pusa to pursue higher studies
which he completed in 2002.
For three years he served three NGOs in various capacities viz.,
Co-ordinator (Agriclinic and Agribusiness Centres) Member
(Watershed Development Team) and Specialist (Agriculture and
Forestry). During this period he got exposed to real problems of
the farmers
29
30. The turning point came to his career on 16th May, 2005
when he left the job to establish himself as an extension
entrepreneur.
The area he chose was unexplored, the path was
untreaded and future was unpredictable.
But the obstacles and hindrances started melting before
his confidence and conviction.
After discussion with scientists, officials, professionals
and farmers, he launched his dream project “Mobile
Agricultural School and Services (MASS)”.
The acronym MASS is so dear to him that his
organization is named after it.
30
31. Mobile Agricultural School and Services (MASS)
Mr. Bharat had realized that real extension problem
is that farmers do not get timely information in an
understandable manner. Therefore, he visualized that the
mobile agricultural school, if implemented will have great
economic impact both for the clients as well as for
entrepreneur. But he had not enough financial resources
to start this venture. His vision became a reality, when he
succeeded in convincing bank management about the
applicability of his idea, thereby secured a huge loan.
31
32. Facilities
Mobile Agricultural School is nothing but a big bus fitted with all
modern training aids.
It has
Portable genset
Laptop computer
LCD projector
Projection screen.
The interior decoration of the bus gives a feel of good
training hall. The bus does not have chair, rather a good quality
carpet has been laid down to accommodate maximum number of
trainees. A good ambience is provided by air conditioner. He
takes this school to the remote rural areas to impart training to the
villagers. 32
34. Modus operandi
Climate setting for training is done by informal
discussion where in farmers express their preferences.
Thereafter, the video film is shown on selected topic or
enterprise
Which is followed by discussion.
