Job roles in the Media
Film editor A film editor is a person hired to assemble the footage of a feature film, a television show or a documentary. Their job includes being able to manipulate the plot, sound, graphics and score to ensure that they get the best production possible. In Hollywood some production companies hire the editor before many of the other crew members; this is because people in Hollywood recognize that the skills of a good film editor can make or break a production, they need to be able to rely on the editor to be there for the film 100%. Much like the director uses actors over and over again, they also use film editors that match their style and are comfortable with. Editors can express themselves through their unique styles. They work long hours to ensure the production fits in with the initial proposal and after showing the film to numerous test audiences, they will do it again. Film editors spend a long time perfecting and amending their craft because, like most industries, the film industry has embraced new technology.

And more. Most, if not all of the films Trayler has edited have been animation, therefore from this we can gather animation for children would be her style of editing. Many other Editors follow there own unique techniques of editing and therefore become relied upon to edit certain types of films. The director needs to feel comfortable knowing the editor has the same vision as they do.
Director A Director is one of the biggest roles of a production (especially in the creation of a feature film). There initial aim is to interpret the script and to oversee the creative aspects of a film, under the producer. Interpreting the vision of the film is one way a director creates a trademark for themselves. Some decide to follow children fantasy films, whilst others follow a dark drama genre. In either case the director needs to ensure all of the crew members understand and will follow this vision. They also must turn the script into a sequence of shots for the editor to then complete. It is important that the director allows the genre to incorporate elements from which the audience will gain the most cinematic experience from, therefore making it a huge success. A director is also responsible for deciding upon the camera shots, angles lens's and lighting with the help from the cinematographer, and set design with the production designer. The directoe will regularly take part in hiring crew members and actors as they need to feel comfortable with the people they are working with. Finally the director will be also involved in the writing, financing and editing of a film.
Director Example: One English director who has been very successful in his job is David Yates. Best known for directing the final four films in the Harry Potter Franchise, he has made a name for himself through the popular demand circling round the Harry Potter name. The first two Harry Potter films he directed became the highest-grossing entries in the series and through the outstanding reviews on the ‘Deathly Hallows’ made him the most commercially successful British director to date. He has even been honored with a Best Director accolade for his work on Harry Potter, which no other director has been throughout the series. Gaining interest for his award-winning short films in the early stages of his career, it comes to no shock that he has become not only a UK success but is also known widely in America and across the world. He has become known for the use of hand held cameras to visually provoke the subject matter and has therefore become one of his directorial trademarks. Yates is considered as one of Britain’s most celebrated directors of film and television.
Producer A film producer is another major role in the creation of a film. They oversee and deliver the film to any relevant party and preserve the vision of the film. Expenses of the film also lay in their hands, in many occasions the producer will take a financial risk by using their own money to pre-produce the film, before the fill finances are in place. A producer is involved throughout all major aspects of a film and carries out the vision from beginning to end along with the director, screen writer and other crew members. Some roles a producer will undergo will include; coordinating, supervising and controlling the more major aspects of the film, for example the finances, the parties involved in the film, fund-raising, hiring key roles (the director etc.) and the overall management issues needed to be taken in order to legalise the films production. They will also influence the hiring of other personnel such as the UPM or line producer and accountant. Producers also oversee the overall conditions for making the movie, sometimes as union signatories. The approval involves following strict guidelines as outlined by unionized organizations such as the Directors Guild of America (DGA) or Screen Actors Guild (SAG).
