INSECTS AS FOOD
The population of the world increased to 9 billion by 2015. This will
demand the increase output from the agro system. In most of the
world the insects are included in the human diet.in north
america, europe and most of all in china, honkong and japan it is
widely used in fast food as the refreshment.insects contain high
amount of protien, vitamins and minerals and are very highly rated as
taste.
Entomophagy:
The practice of consuming insects are called
entomophagy. In one of the estimation the insects are the part of
human diet for long time.Atleast 2 billion people used the insects as
food in their diets.About 1900 insect species are using as food or food
product now a days speciely in europe an china.the classification of
insects in orders as % of their inclution is as follows
Coleoptera 27%
Lapidopter 18%
Hymenoptera 14%
Orthoptera 13%
Hemiptera 10 %
Termites,trueflies 3%
Preparationan processing:
Insects are consumed as whole
mostly but they can be peeled and processrd also.Europian societies
are not taking insect as whole for food but they used them in
flous, granuals and all other products for which insects are used. The
chinies, japanies and some other people are used the insecta as whole
for food purposes. They used them in grilled as well as in fried form as
fast food for the refreshment. In some countries the extract of insect in
the form of protien.vitamins and minerals are used in food as well as
in medicine.
NutritionalValue Of Insects:
The nutrients in insects varies
form species to species and also varies in different development
stages. The insects have amino acid which is also varies in different
formulation and these are the best optimum diets for the human being
and in chileds for their development growth. For the purposes of
protien the insects are used after removing the wings ang legs. And as
we know the legs and the wings are the part of exoskeleton which is
purly contain chitin and for the consumption of corbohydrates legs
and the wings are used.
Role in human health:
Entomophagy is the very important in
human health and also very helpful in body development. As the
insects contain mono and poly unsaturated amino acids as in
livestoch products they also rearable food commodities.According to
the world health organization(WHO) many countries icludind
developing as well as under developed coutries the high percentage is
recorded in the shortage of nutrients in people mostly in childes and
girls in the form of iron, minerals.vitamins, protiens and corbohydrates
are occure.Insects exoskeleton is made up of chitin which is the
source of corbohydrates and the parts like wings and legs are highly
rated as the big source of corbohydrates. The insects are also the big
source of protien .
