  1. 1. American folk dances are like the European folk dances. They were formed also for theneed of the people to socialize, interact and enjoy. With merely the same climate and weathercondition, dances are more on foot work to lessen the cold feeling. In this Chapter, two folk dances will be featured, the La Cucaracha from Mexico andthe Red River Valley from United States of America which is a square dance. You will feelthe lifestyle of the American as you do the dance because it shows the tradition of theAmerican in their daily life. Chapter Objectives 1. To be aware of some selected Foreign Folk Dance in the different countries of America; 2. To recall the basic dance steps and the terminologies to be used in the dances originated from America; 3. To react actively upon the meaning of the dance and its symbols; 4. To display attitude while performing the dance; and 5. To perform the dances from America with accuracy of steps and with the proper attire (costume), music and formations.
