Finish the essay on some causes of a negative body image.
“Looks don’t matter”, “Beauty is only skin-deep”. We hear these sayings every day, and yet we live in a
society that seems to contradict this very idea. The question then arises “What is a body image?” Body image refers to
how people see themselves and how they think other people picture them. However, young people today tend to
develop a negative body image. It basically means that they see and think about themselves in a negative way and they
feel uncomfortable and unsatisfied with their physical appearance due to many reasons.

The influence advertisement and the media have on teenagers are the primary reasons why

In conclusion, the media’s depiction of the body image is appalling, and it is the largest contributor
for many adolescent people’s dissatisfaction with their bodies since young people are exposed to unrealistic
portrayal of the body image in adverts and on TVs. Pressure from the same age group also negatively
affects the self-perception of how young adolescents look like. I strongly believe that teenagers had better
not form a uniform beauty concept about their own appearance only by relying on external factors.
