English Maths Science & Technology
This term we will be taking an
integrated approach in our English
teaching and learning covering the
strands of:
Speaking and Listening,
Writing and Representing, Handwriting
and using Digital Technologies,
Reading and Viewing, Grammar,
Punctuation and Vocabulary.
L3: Early Stage 1 students will receive
explicit instruction in reading and
writing within small groups of three to
four using this research-based
Kindergarten classroom program.
Early Stage 1 will be learning a variety
of English concepts and literary devices
(e.g. characterisation) through quality
literature.
We will also be studying questioning,
visuals and prediction in text.
Mathematical learning will include
the 4 strands of the NSW
Mathematics syllabus. Strands
taught this term include:
Working Mathematically:
developing skills in mathematical
communicating
Number and Algebra: whole
number
Measurement and Geometry:
length, time
Statistics and Probability: Data
This term in Early Stage 1 we will be
exploring the Natural World and
completing the Primary Connections
Unit on Growing Well.
The Growing Well unit is an ideal way to
link science with literacy in the
classroom. It provides opportunities for
students to investigate the basic needs
for survival of common flowering plants,
through hands-on activities. Students
will explore what happens to plants
when their needs are not met, and
compare those needs to animals.
Human Society and Its Environment
& History
Creative Arts PD/H/PE
This term Early Stage 1 will be
completing an integrated unit exploring
- Me
Each student will explore the
characteristics of their own and other
families.
Visual Arts: Students will be
involved in a series of art and craft
lessons focusing on making
artworks for different audiences,
assembling materials in a variety
of ways this will be explored
through the integrated unit on Me.
Music: This term Early Stage 1 will
be participating in simple singing,
playing, body percussion and
movement activities.
Personal Development:
We will be focusing on how people grow
and change. Students will be expressing
their feelings and describing how
individuals care for each other.
Within Health early stage 1 will be
concentrating on maintaining regular
hygiene practises at school such as
washing hands after going to the toilet
and before eating.

Homework
Early Stage 1 will have home readers which will be sent home weekly. Each child will receive a set of sight words that
will be studied over the term. These are to be practised at home. This will start in the second half of the term.

Equipment List
In order to maximise learning
opportunities and encourage good
hygiene practises, we ask that each
child brings in a box of tissues, paper
towel for drying hands, hand pump
soap and 4 glue sticks.
Paint Shirt: Please send a shirt or
plastic smock clearly labelled with
your studentโs name to stay at school
for painting activities.
