This term, Stage 3 students will take an integrated approach to learning English, mathematics, science, history, and creative arts. In English, they will learn concepts like alliteration and imagery through a variety of strands including writing, reading, spelling, and grammar. In mathematics, students will cover topics in number, measurement, statistics, and working mathematically. For science, they will explore physical and chemical changes through the unit "Change Detectives." History will focus on early settlers and the gold rush in Australia. Creative arts will incorporate visual arts and music. Students will also study health, PDHPE, and relationships.

1. English Maths Science & Technology
This term we will be taking an
integrated approach in our English
teaching and learning. Strands included
will be:
Speaking and Listening,
Writing and Representing, Handwriting
and using Digital Technologies,
Reading and Viewing,
Spelling,
Grammar, Punctuation and Vocabulary.
Stage 3 will be learning a variety of
English concepts and literary devices
including: alliteration, onomatopoeia,
stereotyping, tone and visuals.
We will also be studying bias, dialogue
imagery and representation.
Mathematical learning will include
the 4 strands of the NSW
Mathematics syllabus. Strands
taught this term include:
Working Mathematically:

communicating, problem solving
and reasoning
Number and Algebra: whole
number, addition and subtraction,
fractions and decimals

This term in Stage 3 we will be exploring
the Material World and completing the
Primary Connections Unit on Change
Detectives.
The Change detectives unit is an ideal
way to link science with literacy in the
classroom. It provides opportunities for
students to explore melting,
evaporating, dissolving, burning and
chemical reactions. Studentsโ
understanding of the factors that
influence the rate of change will be
developed through hands-on activities
and student-planned investigations.
Students become detectives who
identify and explain physical and
chemical changes in everyday
materials.

choral lessons, body percussion
and drumming.

Stage 3 will have a spelling revision list sent home each Monday and this is to be learnt at home with parental guidance. It
is also expected that students practice their times tables each night at home and read a wide range of literature. Each
Stage 3 class will have a spelling test on Fridays. In conjunction with the integrated Learning Unit, students will receive a
homework project which will be presented to the class and help assess the speaking and listening sub strand.
