This document provides an overview and review of the TEAC 259 course on instructional technology. It discusses the use of technology in teaching and learning, the National Educational Technology Standards, issues in technology integration, and projects completed in the course. Students are instructed to format their e-portfolios properly and submit a final reflection by the due date. The instructor hopes students learned about using technology in the classroom and will be innovative teachers.
2. Instructional Technology The use of technology for teaching, learning, and assessment Technology should enhance the teaching, learning, and/or assessment process in some way Do not use technology for the sake of using technology!
3. National Educational Technology Standards Created by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards exist for students, teachers, and administrators The standards for teachers have been the foundation for this course
4. Issues in Technology Integration Digital Divide Who has access at home? How are we using the technology that we currently have (e.g. Type 1 vs. Type 2 activities)? Acceptable Use Policies Do you know the guidelines for using technology in your school/district? Ethical Use (e.g. copyright)
5. Back to the NETS In what ways have we met the NETS for teachers? What do we still have to work on? Get together with your group and discuss your assigned NET. What projects do you feel addressed your particular NET? What do you still have to learn?
6. Looking at the Projects Individually How could you use the projects from this course in your future teaching setting? Get together with your group and generate ideas for using this course’s projects in your future teaching setting.
7. Wrapping Up Your e-Portfolio Create a page for your digital movie. Make sure all of your projects are up-to-date (revisions have been made). Make sure all of your journal entries are finished. Pay attention to the “look” of your e-portfolio.
8. Formatting Your e-Portfolio Use the same font type throughout your e-portfolio. Font sizes should be different for headers and text, but consistent throughout the e-portfolio. For the most part, black font should be used. Hyperlinks should NOT look like URL’s. Your navigation should make sense. The layout of each page should be logical and appealing.
9. Your Final You will complete a 2 – 3 page final reflection. The reflection will be created in Google Docs. You will submit by posting in a new e-portfolio page. Both the e-portfolio and your final reflection are due Tuesday, May 4 by 12:00 p.m.
10. Final Thoughts My hopes for you You have learned something about the relationship between technology and instruction. You will be a creative and innovative new generation of teachers. You realize that you do not have to be a “techie” to use technology in the classroom. Thank you for your work this semester! Please remember to fill out the course evaluation.
