Rumours that medium density fibre board (MDF) is banned in the USA
are untrue. Emissions of formaldehyde from board products are,
however, regulated in the USA and Germany, and are expected to be
regulated throughout the European Community (EC) in the future.

Commonly used man made boards - Orientated Strand
board (OSB)

• OSB/1 General purpose boards, and boards for interior
fitments (including furniture) for use in dry conditions
• OSB/2 Load-bearing boards for use in dry conditions
• OSB/3 Load-bearing boards for use in humid conditions
• OSB/4 Heavy duty load-bearing boards for use in
humid conditions

Commonly used man made boards - Plywood
Plywood is normally constructed of odd number of thin veneers glued together
with the grain laid at right angles to the adjoining
This ensures the outer veneers are in the same direction
Fixing close to the edge is possible without breakout
Various timbers are used in the manufacture of ply including, Beech,
Douglas fir, Gaboon, Parana pine, Birch etc.
