Solution Ribs are the essential organ for the protection of vital oragan in upper body, which include lung and heart. it is not protecting the organ but they provide mechanical stength to the chest cavity. they are also useful for breathing. there are twelve pair of ribes which possed total 24 bones known as ribsbone. ribs are flat, thin bone which is attached with the sternum. Ribs are classified in to three catogary bassed on size and how it connct with the skeleton system. 1. true ribs 2. false ribs 3. floating ribs True ribs are attached with the spine at the back around with sternum. first seven pair of ribs is true ribs. next three pair means 8 to 10 pair is known as false ribs. the majour differnce between the true ribs and false ribs is the attachment with the skeleton system. true ribs are attached at the back portion while the false ribs are attached with the front part of the body accrodind to the defination of ribs it is not directly connected with the sternum but it is indirectly connected with that. actully it connected with the lower true ribs so it is called as false ribs. The last two ribs means 11th and 12th are known as floating ribs. it is smallest ribs among the all. they like as in hanging position. it means they connected at the one end but the other end is not conncted with any skeleton. so it seems like floating postion. thats why the name is given floating. last two pairs are connected with spine at the back but they are not connected with anything to the front, so thus appearing to float. because of that the name was given floating ribs..
