3. INTRODUCTION
The skeleton system consists of the
bones of the skeleton. Their joints
and the skeleton muscles that
moves the body. Bones are often
thought to be static or permanent,
they are highly vascular living
structures that are continuously
being remodeled.

4. STERNUM
It is also known as the breast bone.
Structure :-
This is a flat bone.
It gives attachment to the diaphragm
muscles of the anterior abdominal wall
and the linea alba.
4
5. POSITION
Flat and is located in the center of the chest
wall.
It is a flat bone can be felt just under the skin
in the middle of the front of the chest.

9. CONTD….
Structure :-
12 pairs
Forms the bony lateral walls of the thoracic cage.
The lowest two parts of the ribs are referred to as the floating ribs ,
don’t joint the sternum at all , their anterior tips are being free.
Due to the arrangement of the ribs and the quantity of the cartilage
present in the rib cage , it is flexible structure that can change it’s
shape during berating.
9
11. POSITION
They are elongated curved bones that articulate
posteriorly with the vertebral column.
Posteriorly :- articulate with thoracic vertebrae.
Anteriorly :- 10 ribs to the sternum.
11
13. CONTD….
Function :-
There are 12 pairs of ribs which
gives attachment of the sternum.
They together form a cage known as rib cage.
They protect many vital organs such as lungs , heart etc.
Between each ribs the intercostals muscles are present which helps in
the respiration during the exhalation and inhalation.
13
14. CONCLUSION
Sternum forms the joint with the ribs and they together
form the ribcage which protect the lungs and the
heart from many types of various conditions, which
are the vital organs of our body.
