products offered on the online sites will bring the store to the shoppers rather than customers to the stores in which will increase the sales. This

Online Shopping Is More Effective Than Conventional Shopping
"Being busy with work, and as a mom, I 'm a big fan of online shopping" – Kirsty Gallacher
Online shopping had gone into business as early as 1992. The number of people that used online shopping had gone up when people started to gain
ownership of personal computers. In 2007, 875 million people had at least made one online purchase that year. It continued to grow after that it had
been recorded that 9 percent of the United States had been purchasing items online. With the creation of the World Wide Web and a browser sites like
Amazon and Ebay had started to come into play. Most of the earliest shoppers were males who know some things about computers and the way they
worked, while time passed by in 2001 studies showed that 52 percent of online shoppers were women. Online shopping is a way that retailers could
advertise their products and increase sales. Improving the way that we shop today and making it easier for the people. Online shopping is more effective
than conventional shopping because it save consumers time, saves consumers energy and consumers would not be as pressured to purchase items.

Online Versus Traditional / Offline Shopping : The Parents...
Title
A Comparative Study on the Reasons/Motives that determine the decision to engage in Online versus Traditional/Offline Shopping: The Parents
Perspective
1. Introduction
Dating back twenty years shopping experiences and methods have evolved; this may be influenced by the evolution of the World Wide Web through
the introduction of technology to the shopping experience. This evolution coupled with lifestyle changes has allowed shoppers to rely on a number of
retail formats to meet their shopping needs, (Scott, 2001; Nicholson et al, 2002 as cited in, Gehrt and Yan 2004).This gives the people the opportunity
to choose how they shop, as the internet now allows people to do research on products they want to purchase before completing a transaction, (Rayner,
2013).
Traditional shops evolving to online shops has become a trend, this is seen in how stores like Argos, Boots and John Lewis have integrated to online
services, The way individuals prefer to shop nowadays may be of influence. Hsiao (2009) states how shopping habits have changed from traditional to
online shopping. Studies have been conducted over the years with the aim to determine the patterns, attitudes, factors and influences of consumer
behaviour on online/traditional shopping, for example (Gong, Stump & Maddox, 2013; Hand et al., 2009; Jayawardhena, 2004).

How Do Retailers Like David Jones Add Value to the...
How do retailers like David Jones add value to the marketing system? Does an online retailer like Scorptec add value in the same manner? The
purchasing goods & services have throughout the years begun to lead to a new perception of consumer relationship and in ways businesses
conduct their operations. Not only is a business concerned with the buying and selling of goods & services but to further maintain that relationship
with their customers to correlate between both parties. As this being the prime functionality of businesses, each business must differentiate themselves
with other businesses offering different and wholesome services, which overwhelms their competitors, thus adding their own individualistic value to

An important factor that determines whether consumers should return back to the store later is the intrinsic value the business portrayed. Staff aids
potential buyers with their product knowledge as well as having a further evaluation with their products. The simple values David Jones provides are
various experiences such as fitting in clothes before you purchase the product for second thoughts and having the ability to smell the fragrance before
purchasing it and knowing what it smells like. On the other hand, a online retail store in comparison to a retail store provide new values to their
marketing system. Businesses like Scorptec offer values to their customers in different methods. The most simplistic value they offer is reduced prices
of their products attracting customers. The reasoning behind reduced costs of goods is because the handling cost have reached minimal amounts in
parallel to retail stores. Online retailers require only a storage warehouse to contain their products and dispatch them when they are required. This is
managed by inventory control to ensure that products are available for sale when needed without overstocking on the product. The prime function of
managing an online retail is that the business doesn't require shipping products to independent intermediaries. This makes time and concentration more
available on creating an improved product without the need to consistently dispatch products to outlets but simply

Overstock.com Is An American Online Retailer Headquartered
Overstock.com is an American online retailer headquartered in Cottonwood, Utah. Dr. Patrick M. Byrne founded Overstock.com in 1999. In
spring 1999, Dr. Byrne took over the company Deals.com. By October 1999 Dr. Byrne renamed Deals.com to Overstock.com. In December 1999
Overstock.com reaches $1 million in sales and ended that year at $1.8 million in revenue. Dr. Byrne started Overstock.com because he realized that
it was an open market for liquidated inventory through the Internet. Dr. Byrne knew the potential of buying inventory through the internet would be
a big deal especially since technology have improved. Overstock.com mission is to be the first company to sell excess inventory through the
Internet. Overstock.com revenue has grown from $1.8 million in 1999 to nearly $1.3 billion in 2013. (Overstock.com) Before Dr. Byrne brought
up the concern of buying through the internet, consumers who were looking for a bargain had to travel far to outlet stores. The stores that are in the
community will only reduce their price a little bit because they know their customers will not travel over an hour to a store when they can go down
the street. When going to community stores consumer had to deal with crowds and limited product selections because of demand. For example,
when flat screen TV first became popular in 2009. The demand for a TV was so big that they did not have to reduce the price. So you will either
travel to the outlet store to get a deal or just buy the TV from the

The Office for National Statistics (2013) have stated that in 2013, 73% of adults in the UK use the Internet everyday, which is twenty million people
more than in 2006.
The traditional retail experience is lost by the rise of technology and online shopping (Li et al., 1999). Shopping in stores was once a communal
activity: walking in stores, interacting with other individuals, being able to feel the product and trying the product on (Monsuwe et al., 2004, p.115).
There are many consumers who still prefer shopping in store and enjoy the shopping experience as opposed to shopping alone at home starring at a
screen (Barnes, 2013). Technology should aid the shopping experience online, but there are still many concerns, uncertainties and risks that are
involved in the process of buying online.
It is evident that technology was created to help humans in making jobs easier and more efficient. Nowadays electronics can perform tasks that
seemed to be impossible in the past. Technology has many benefits and drawbacks: it is becoming very complicated, which brings many
inconveniences to individuals. The further technology advances, the more it appears to be taking over people's lives and choices. Individuals have
started to allow technology to think and complete tasks on their behalf. Technology has created an unsocial generation in society: people are more
involved in their social media sites, such as Facebook and Instagram. Friends

The Amazon app is a good way to quickly access to this digital marketplace via the smartphone. However, I would have to say I highly dislike the
fact that every time I'm searching the web on my iPhone and click into the Amazon website the app suddenly opens. This causes a loop that takes me

The Future Is Online for Apparel Retailers
The Future is Online for Apparel Retailers
Euromonitor International 26 October 2011
Coming up with innovative ways to harness the huge potential of the internet is the biggest retail challenge facing the apparel industry over the next
five years. And at the core of the challenge is the need for a fast, efficient and hassle–free returns service.
A tipping point for online apparel retailing
The practice of waiting in line for an available changing room to try on new clothes might one day become a novelty rather than an unavoidable
nuisance as apparel internet retailing enters a dynamic new era of growth. Over the 2005–2010 period, global online sales of clothing and footwear
generated US$32 billion of incremental value, with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, H&M and Zara posted CAGRs (by US dollar value) of 12.5% and 11.8%, respectively, over the 2005–2010 period. In contrast,
independent apparel specialists have been losing share as their smaller economies of scale are less able to absorb the negative pressures of rapidly
rising commodity costs and higher inflation. Even big–name fast fashion retailers have seen their sales growth run out of steam in a number of
developed markets. As a result, store–based investment in the post–Lehman Brothers operating environment has focused heavily on building stronger
positions in China and other first–tier emerging markets.
Department stores face fierce competition from grocers
Not all chained apparel specialists have performed well over the recent period. For example, apparel companies that run wholesale operations, as well
as their own stores, have been vulnerable to the sluggishness of department stores in developed markets. Esprit and Benetton, notably, have lost market
share ground. And Esprit in particular has been weakened by its overdependence on developed markets.
Although department stores returned to growth globally in 2010, according to Euromonitor International, the format remains vulnerable not only to the
growth of fast fashion chains but also to the growing apparel penetration of leading grocery retailers. For staple apparel items and increasingly for on
trend fashion styles too, the grocery

Amazon 's Largest Online Retailer
Amazon.com, the world's largest online retailer, was founded in 1994. Even though the company has been fortunate with its success, it has not been
without hard work and continuous efforts to develop and reach new heights. Initially, Amazon was not a retailer of everything as we all know of it
today. Its primary focus and profit stemmed from the selling of books online and operated out of the founder's garage.
Amazon began around the time the Internet and the world wide web began booming globally. Starting in the 1990s, home and business computers
began hooking up to internet providers and web browser software. As the internet became more prevalent in society, Jeff Bezos, founder of
Amazon.com, saw this as an opportunity for business, in which he could sell products over the internet to offer a variety of choices and opportunities;
becoming one of electronic commerce (e–commerce) first developers. Amazon headquarters, located in Seattle, was also specifically chosen since
Seattle is known to be a large high–tech work force and because it's location was near to one of its major selling products distribution centers. While
Bezo worked on his business plan, he was also out raising funds for the company, simultaneously working with software developers to create the
company's web site. After a year, Amazon announced its web site, and almost instantaneously became the number one book related site on the Web.

which all provide a convenient use of 'books'. People's change in lifestyle and tastes comes with a craze over technology, which begs the question

This has an effect on the increase growth of online sales of books; for example, as the price of books is expensive in the high street, such as WHSmith;
customers will switch to online purchase, such as, Amazon. Moreover, the changing in technology also encouraging consumers to switch from
traditional printed books sold in high street book stores to e–books sold online. For example, this has been supported by the BBC website which
suggests that 'the total number of printed books sold dropped even further– falling 9.8% to 186.9 million.' This implies that the continued growth of the
digital e–books market sold online has serious impact/responsible for the large decrease in high street book sales. (BBC, 2014)
Consumers take price consideration, such as, price elasticity of demand on books. Books are often viewed as price elastic. As the price of the
books decreases or it has better offer in online sales, consumer will switch to purchase it online rather than high street. This causes a rise in quantity
demanded for online purchase of books and decrease purchase of books from the high street book stores. For example, customers can compare price
of the books between the online book stores provided by different sellers, which it creates even high competition for high street book store to compete
with online book stores. As high street book stores cannot

platform, she had pop shops in campus which allowed her to talk to customers and find out more about their purchasing decisions. For online shopping,
you cannot easily find out if the customer will be the user. Purchases could be for gifts.
She created an online shop in 2012, when she was in college, to help her make extra money. The shop was described as mission–driven with products
that socially conscious and support domestic violence organizations and environmental impact. The shop is on Etsy, because the online platform made

Technology And Consumerism And Its Impact On Consumerism
In the past 20 years, technology has grown like never before. The Internet started in the 1960s as a government project and has only grown in
popularity. In 1995, there were 16 million Internet users, whereas in June of 2017, there were 3,885 million users. This means that approximately
51.7% of the world's population is connected to the Internet today [Internet World Stats, 2017]. The mass amounts of exposure to technology, the World
Wide Web, and e–commerce lead one to wonder what influence technology and social media have on consumerism and on a customer's buying habits.

Many Internet users allow this without ever knowing they can turn this search engine feature off. Companies often times do not want consumers to
know they can stop being tracked as it helps companies know what products to push and spend advertisement money on. In 2017, it is estimated that
the average company spends 35% of their advertising budget on online advertisements, which is more than any other form of advertisement. Due to
this number, it is not surprising that technology has pushed consumers to purchase more products than they may have purchased in the past when
online advertising was not as prevalent.
Apart from advertising, social media also drives many consumers to the store and to online retailers to purchase products. The main social media
platforms of today are Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat, each of which tends to target different consumer groups and products. Facebook
is the largest social network and currently has 1.86 billion active users each month. Facebook continues to rapidly grow as monthly users increased
by 17% from 2016 to now [Sparks, 2017]. By logging onto Facebook, users can see all of their friends' posts and what their friends are doing. This can
lead some users to try to keep up with their friends as far as purchases– if someone sees that a friend has the newest iPhone, they too may feel the need
to go out and purchase an iPhone to 'keep up with the Jones's' as the popular saying goes. Recently, Facebook launched Facebook

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Online Shopping...
Chapter 3: Online shopping
The online shopping market showed a continuous growth in revenue and employment in the last years ("CBS Statline – Detailhandel," 2016), but
despite this growth there is also a heavy competition for market share going on. Webshops are trying to be unique and focus more and more on the
benefits of online shopping and in the meantime counteract the disadvantages. Research showed that the main reasons for consumers to make online
purchases are convenience and enjoyment (Childers et al., 2001). These factors are strong and accurate predictors of the attitude towards online
shopping. Improvement of these factors will improve the attitude of the consumers towards online shopping and so the chances that consumers will
shop online. In this chapter an overview the advantages and disadvantages of online shopping will be given.
3.1 Information gathering
Information gathering for online shopping does not require the same travel time and travel costs as physical shopping, but it does require access to the

now contact others, share opinions, videos and pictures easily throughout the world. This creates challenges for (online) retailers because bad reviews

Literature review
According to Tauber (1972), experiences are an important part of consuming and shopping. Shoppers are not always simply looking to buy products,
but also want to get pleasure from the shopping activity. This experience is affected by the customer's shopping goals, what they expect, and what their
motivations are (Demangeot & Broderick, 2006).
Motivation for shopping online is an important factor to consider when analysing the shopping experience (Swatman & Chin, 2004). Holbrook and
Hirschman (1982) established that it is highly important to create hedonic significance through good experiences in order to toughen up the
relationships with consumers. Customer experience involves engaging several of the customer's aptitudes to satisfy and create value while he interacts
with the organisation, its products and its other customers. Similarly, an online retailer's role is to establish an appropriate environment to help
customers in gaining a positive experience while shopping online (Pentina et al., 2011). When people shop online, they are not only consumers but also
users of the computer (Demangeot & Broderick,

The Impact Of Digital Music On The Business Industry
Music retail has been a thriving international industry for almost a century. And like most successful industries, it has experienced drastic developments
in technology to ensure growth and success. From the invention of the phonograph in 1877, through the height of vinyl records in the 1970s and the
shift to cassettes and compact discs in the eighties, consumers clung to the latest technologies, which made the purchase and ownership of recorded
music increasingly simple. Through each of these developments, small retailers thrived as the center of the music retail industry with small territories

The unique methods of small retailers has given way to a niche market in which local music stores are able to remain a part of the music retail industry.
In recent years, the rise of technology in the changing music retail industry has prompted small independent retailers to develop improved relations

The advent and evolution of online music services has had profound effects on the entire music retail industry as it has changed the product and
primary methods of commerce while also lowering revenue. The most popular and well–known of these services is iTunes, the digital music market of
Apple. iTunes' business was one of the first to bring large amounts of easily accessible music to the general public through digital means,

Staff aids potential buyers with their product knowledge as well as having a further evaluation with their products. The simple values David Jones provides are various experiences such as fitting in clothes before you purchase the product for second thoughts and having the ability to smell the fragrance before purchasing it and knowing what it smells like. Amazon headquarters, located in Seattle, was also specifically chosen since Seattle is known to be a large high–tech work force and because it's location was near to one of its major selling products distribution centers. While Bezo worked on his business plan, he was also out raising funds for the company, simultaneously working with software developers to create the company's web site. For example, this has been supported by the BBC website which suggests that 'the total number of printed books sold dropped even further– falling 9.8% to 186.9 million.' This implies that the continued growth of the digital e–books market sold online has serious impact/responsible for the large decrease in high street book sales.
