After School Meeting Analysis
Chapter six in the book, When Grief Visits School informs the reader about the importance of
conducting before and after school meetings after a crisis occurs and also highlights key steps
involved in this process. It suggests that a school have a calling tree in place to get out adequate and
accurate information regarding the crisis situation. After activating the calling tree, it is critical to
plan for a meeting before school the following day. The agenda for this meeting should include:
1. Current facts and details to help clarify and dispel rumors
2. An introduction of the crisis response team
3. Outlining a plan for the school day such as how to announce to students, a parent letter,
availability of substitute teachers, the location of crisis center for students, and how to get students
to the crisis center.
4. Ideas for staff dealing with students
5. Support for staff
6. Maintaing a normal routine as closely as possible
7. Dealing with media
8. Memorials
9. Meeting with teachers who directly worked with the student
10. Plans for the after school meeting
Something very important in developing your meeting plans is to clarify who is in charge. The
building principal should ultimately lead these meetings unless there is an extenuating circumstance
in which someone else ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of this meeting is to bring some closure to the school day. You should use this time to
discuss new information regarding the crisis and review the day with all staff. The agenda for this
meeting may not be long but it is critical to dealing with a crisis and should not be canceled. It
should be used to discuss at risk students that the staff is concerned about, discussing funeral
arrangements, discussing support of the family, sharing the continued availability of the crisis
response team, encouraging staff to acknowledge and address their emotional needs and thank them

After School Programs Benefits
The Output is Bigger than the Input
When most people hear the words "after school program," the first thoughts that cross their minds
are often associated with babysitting. However, that is not the case. An after school program is a
place where children are able to grow and develop their developmental skills. After school programs
are able to help children in impoverished neighborhood, are able to stop the cycle of poverty, and
are able to create new circumstances for their lives (After School Alert Issue Brief). A belief shared
throughout most after school programs is that they should serve in areas of all socioeconomic
classes. Although many people believe that after school programs are expensive, the benefits one
receives from a program ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a government website, District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) make a point that,
"Afterschool programs allow students to participate in academic and extracurricular enrichment
activities and are able to develop new hobbies and skills. DCPS teachers, paraprofessionals, and
community–based organizations provide a variety of unique programming options to students"
(Afterschool Programs). DCPS teachers not only help students with homework problems or
assignments, but they do their best to provide students with lessons that go beyond a child's
homework. Children are able to acquire instrumental skills early. Over the years, children will be
building on their skill to be stronger physically as well as mentally. After school programs benefit
children in the present and in the future. Sarah Gaillot and Nicole Maestas, who both have done
extended research on after school programs, wrote the book, An Outcome Evaluation of the Success
for the Kids Program. In chapter two "Title Program Description", Gaillot and Maestas bring to our
attention that "SKF (Spirituality for Kids) curriculum is based on established best practices in the
resiliency literature that seek to build four area of personal strength: social competence, problem
solving, autonomy or self–efficacy, and sense of purpose (Gaillot, Maestas). Children learn
communication skills and are encouraged to use words and communicate their feelings instead of
throwing a fit. Teaching skills in certain lessons will help children with problems that they face now;
and as the child gets older, they will only gain strength in those

After High School Goals
My plans after high school is to attend Texas State University in the fall to major in political science,
because I strive to further my education goals. My goals after college to extend into a three–year law
school to become a professional family lawyer, because people can't represent their selves as much
as a lawyer can and help them work out their concerns. A star educator that inspired me is Ms.
Rosemond throughout my years of high school that you are an intelligent young lady and shouldn't
let adversity stop you from accomplishing your goals in life. Stay on me regarding to applying for
scholarships and keeping an optimistic mindset. Encouraged me to consider other schools instead of

Essay about Effective After-school Programs
Children who are subject to negative or bad environments are more prone to engaging in drugs and
alcohol. There are many programs that bring awareness and prevention to alcohol and drugs. The
South Carolina Afterschool Alliance program provides groups and organizations with an effective
after–school program plan. The after–school programs are essential in promoting awareness and
prevention of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, abstinence, and violence to young children or adolescents.
The South Carolina Afterschool Alliance program strives to reach the community and explain the
importance of after–school programs. They provide information and guidelines to organizations and
groups on how to have effective after–school programs. The program ... Show more content on

The importance of preventing children from drug usage starts at early ages. Education and school
facilities can only occupy children for 7–8 hours a day. The rest of the afternoon leaves children
vulnerable to negative influences. Most children use after–school programs as a way to stay out of
trouble, escape the turmoil of being abused at home, or spend time with youth instead of being
lonely and alienated. Benavente (2006) writes, "After–school program participation also helps to
keep youth from skipping school and experimenting with alcohol, drugs and sexual activity"(pg. 1).
Some children just need a role model or guidance in the right directions. Parents who are neglectful
toward their children leave them at risk for major negative influences. However, a child's life can
change by just reading, hearing, or meeting someone with inspirational words. Adults and
environments have powerful influences on young adolescent minds. Recent research strongly
suggests that well–designed programs are having significant effects on student behaviors (Learning
Point Associates). Children who have too much free time after school without parental vision need
to be involved in after–school programs. There are many negative influences children could be
exposed to in different social environments. Drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex, and violence are just a few
examples in a large category of negative influences

Effectiveness Of After School Programs
Due to after school programs receiving public funding, questions arose as to if after school programs
were effective. Effectiveness of after school programs, and funding is now measured by academic
improvement of students who attend after school programs. Data on the effectiveness of after school
programs have conflicting outcomes. Some studies found a significant increase in student's
academics who attended after school programs (Durlak, Weissberg & Pachan 2010; Durlak &,
Weissber, 2007). Others studies showed no significant gains in academic outcomes for students who
attended after school programs (U.S. Department of Education, 2004; Dynarski, 2015). The
methodology of studies on the effectiveness of after school programs has come into question. There
are several types of after school programs, and the attendance of students varies. Some students
attend five days a week, others once a month. Few of these studies factor varying attendance and
programs into the studies. Lack of methodologically sound studies and dismal effect sizes have led
to the publication of articles such as "The 1.2 billion afterschool program that doesn't work."
Articles such as this advocate that after school programs have little effects on academics, and that
the money for these programs would be better allocated to other programs (Dynarski, 2015) After
school programs were initially created to give disadvantage youth a place to go after school
(Halpern, 2002). The primary objective of these

Transcripts After High School
Transcripts Throughout my 4 years of high school, I am happy to say that I am proud of my grades I
have acquired. Along the way, however, I found difficulty in only 2 of my classes. The first class
was my sophomore year in ag biology. I had a hard time getting through this class and finished off
with a D+. Next was my junior year in my Math 3 class where I struggled all year but ended the year
with a satisfying C. With my struggles, I learned valuable skills such as perseverance and a never
quit attitude that will help me down the road in my education after high school.
Attendance My attendance throughout high school has been everything short of perfect. My

Schools Should Not Have After School Sports
Many schools are now starting to debate whether to have after school sports.A variety of students
and parents may not condone with the idea. Therefore, schools should not have after school
activities because, students focus more on, sports then their school work, they take money away
from the school when they could use it for better purposes, last, it takes too much time consuming .
After school activities may be a pleasure to partake in, sports may also take up the studying time
needed for classes and upcoming tests." While sports do have many benefits– providing exercises,
lessons in perseverance, school spirit, and just plain fun– the emphasis has gone too far" (Ripley
10). " The high school has sealed off the science labs, which were infested with mold, yet the still
had football, basketball, volleyball, track, tennis, cheerleading, and baseball teams" (Ripley 11). The

Ripley explains that "players spend long hours practicing, and the commitment extends to the rest of
the school from late night band practices and pep rallies to meeting parents" (11). She also claims
that " for home games workers have to set up fields, repaint the lines, hire security, and pay for clean
up after the games" (Ripley 11). All of the time getting put into preparing for the home games,
teachers could be helping troubled students or offering extra help with assignments.
It clearly shows that the after school sports are very distracting and unneeded for the students
causing them to be stressed and distracted towards their learning education. The data shows the
enhancement of the students grades and financial difficulty. Therefore, schools should observe the
system of other schools so they can develop a better education for the students and improve their

During this quarter, I have volunteered in Chinese Information and Service Center (CISC) in
Chinatown. It is a community–based organization that helps Asians and other immigrants
throughout King County succeed their new life in this foreign country with an unfamiliar culture
and language. The after–school program I worked with is one of the programs offered in CISC that
aims for children from grade 1 to 8 who are from low–income families, recent immigrants or limited
language abilities to enrich and empower them socially, culturally, and academically. More

Each class has its own teacher and same group of volunteers work in the same classroom for whole

(Clevenger–Bright, 2017a). In CISC, teachers write down daily schedule which is kept all year

deduce their nervousness. The quality of teaching and learning, thereby is improved by the quality
of environment such as well–organized schedule and the developmental tasks such as growth in
reciprocal friendship (Clevenger–Bright, 2017c). Besides, immigrant children often face some
common challenges as poverty, health and language barrier when immigrated to US (Clevenger–
Bright, 2017b). As being new to this environment, both parents and children have less information
to access assistance and often, they could not adapt to their new life. From my experience, I noticed
that the teachers in CISC observe each individual's behavior carefully and provide helpful advice to
their parents as they may not be aware of their children's eligibility for coverage due to busy
working schedules (Clevenger–Bright, 2017b). Once a kid had a nose bleed, the teachers offered

After Graduate School
Deciding what to do after under graduate school is always a difficult task. For most people, they can
never decide this far in advance but for me this is no issue. I decided over a year ago that after I
graduate from Meredith I want to continue my education at either the University of North Carolina
Chapel Hill School of Dentistry or East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine. This
decision did not come easy for me but I am defiant now that it is what I want to do.
Coming to this decision took a lot of thinking and work on my behalf, I spent a lot of time
researching what all went into becoming a dentist. I even spent the summer before my senior year of

I often think about going to school for orthodontics after I graduate from dental school. I decided
that I wanted to have a job in the medical field but did not want to deal with gory things such as a
screwdriver being stuck in someone's eye or with the hardship of putting an animal to rest. One day
after leaving the dentist office I started thinking about how much I love going to the dentist and
getting my teeth cleaned and checked on. That lead me to begin researching what all a dentist must
do and what you must do to get there. I soon found that as a dentist I would be able to study
medicine and rarely must deal with gory things. The more time I spent watching videos and
researching what goes into being a dentist the more I loved the idea of becoming one. Becoming a
dentist requires you to devote a lot of time to school and it also requires that you learn extreme
amount of information. This is something that I will be able to do using two of my Clifton Strengths,
achiever and learner. Already having these two strengths gives me a leg up to others that are
interested in becoming a dentist because not all of them will not have the work ethic or the desire to
be busy all the time as I do. The fact that I am also a learner will also help me tremendously because
I will be required to learn massive amounts of information. It also helps that I naturally want to
improve myself in things that I do

The Benefits Of After School Arts
More than 15 million school aged children are on their own after school, over one million of them
are in kindergarten through fifth grade. After school activities are a crucial part of the school
experience. There are virtually no risks to participating in these activities. There are options for
everyone, the arts which include; dance, theatre, music, and visual arts. There are sports which can
include; football, soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey. The other afterschool activities too like;
speech/debate, volunteering, math team, and student government. After school activities are a
crucial part of the developmental process, they offer necessary life skills that prepare students for
life after school. There are many benefits to having after school arts programs in schools. The arts, is
a broad term for activities that allow students to express their creativity in a constructive way.
Theatre offers students a chance to boost their confidence in themselves and others. The arts offer
students necessary life skills that will become useful when they are in the real world. Dr. Kyle Pruett
says "Language competence is at the root of social competence. Musical experience strengthens the
capacity to be verbally competent." (Brown). Although not usually associated with language
development, music and theatre are important tools to help develop students language and
communication skills. Other benefits of afterschool arts programs include social benefits, which can

Inner-city Elementary After School Programs Essay
Inner–city Elementary After School Programs Inner–city elementary age kids face many challenges
in and out of the classroom. These challenges range from education day in and day out, as well as,
sometimes growing up in an impoverished family and community. Factors also include peers which
these kids come into contact with at school, in the streets and at home. Kids today need more than
ever an extra push of positive motivation from mentors. I believe that this constructive mentoring
begins with after school programs. After school programs give kids the opportunity to work one on
one with an adult to reinforce encouragement and teach more than just text education. Because I

Without the proper volunteers and supervision, these programs would plummet. Furthermore,
looking into published studies on these after school programs, my optimistic view is further backed
up by existing programs success stories. With suitable goals after school programs have had
substantial success with keeping kids up to speed in the classroom as well as motivating elementary
students of proper behavior and good morals. These programs allow kids to depend on their adviser
as a friend; in result the kids emulate those mentors actions and requests. Most importantly my
research looks into why we need after school programs and how the programs really benefit each
elementary participant?s life and future. Uncovering the importance of after school programs I
encountered some very eye opening information. The reality expressed Ken Adams, a writer on after
school programs, is that ?children?s minds don?t close down at 3 P.M., and neither should there
schools? (1). The elementary age when kid?s minds are forming is the most important time to make
sure that no child is left behind. In retrospect, schools should offer ?an alternative to children
spending large numbers of hours alone or with peers in inadequately supervised activities?
(Working, 1). Although the school day is over it does not mean that kids are done learning. Instead
of sending kids home so early in the day, after school programs offer extended learning

Benefits Of After School Sports
After school sports are a big deal in America. Although many children believe that sports help them
reduce stress; numerous studies have shown that students have been distracted from academics.
Therefore, districts should get rid of after school sports because they cost too much money, they take
away focus from academics, and kids will get better grades.
Districts have been wasting money on after school sports that should be applied towards academics.
According to Amanda Ripley's article in Scholastic Scope, she states, "New bleachers can cost half a

more than $20,000 a year.(Ripley, 11).This data shows that districts are spending a large

The Lighthouse After School Program
Introduction The nonprofit organization that I chose to conduct research on is called the Lighthouse.
The Lighthouse is an after school program for middle and high school students. I decided to
research this organization because I have had a few friends volunteer there and I have heard nothing
but positive comments about it. I really wanted find out more about the Lighthouse because from the
little that I already knew about it, I felt that it provided a safe harbor for our youth in Lincoln and I
think that type of organization is a great asset to the community. In this research paper, I will discuss
the history of Lighthouse, the mission and values of the organization, programs and enrichment that
is provided, projects that have been beneficial to the community, financials, and last but not least, I
will talk about the staff and team at Lighthouse.
History The Lighthouse After–School Program was created in the year 1990 by Peter and Maureen
Allman and Jim Perry according to the Lighthouse website (Lighthouse, 2015). Pete Allman visited
a similar organization called The Covenant House while he was in New York City and when he
came back to Lincoln he was told by many that the community and city of Lincoln, Nebraska
needed a safe place where youth could go and hangout. With the funding from Woods Charitable
Fund, the Lighthouse was able to be set up in the Atwood House on 17th and G. After a year at the

After High School
In " Chicago schools to require graduating students to have plans for future by Emma Brown, the
author was describing how you need a plan for the future so you can graduate is a good thing or a
bad thing. I agree with it because it helps parents not stress about their child not knowing what to do
after high school, it helps students stay focus on they grades knowing that they have a plan and
helps students have a goal and a plan to rach what they want to do. The first reason on why having
plan to graduate is important is that it helps parents be less stressed about their child plan after high
school and more focused on their educations. I think that because in the texts the author said that "
They see it as a way to level the playing field for teens whose parents aren't equipped to help them

members at their child school to help their child because some parents don't know how to help their

After School Activities In America
18.5 percent of teens in America struggle with obesity. Most teenagers struggle with addiction to
alcohol and tobacco. The cause of this is a lack of involvement. In America, we need more after
school activities because it is a great way to get kids involved in, helps students find their interests,
and creates more ways to have fun in schools.
To begin with, afterschool activities help kids get involved which teaches them long term
commitment. After school is done kids will always have something to do if they are involved, rather
than going home and have a lot of time and do nothing which leads students to things that they are
not supposed to do. According to USA today, research shows that self–care and boredom can
increase the likelihood that a young person will experiment with drugs and alcohol by as much as 50

After School Sports Should Be Banned In Schools
A great amount of people have different beliefs about whether there should be sports in public

academic achievements in class, often this is not possible due to a lack of money for classroom
activities. Therefore, after school athletics should be eliminated to cut costs, improve America's high
school graduation rates, and give the students more time to rest.
A great many schools spend money paying for sports teams, but some argue that they should help
cut costs by removing them. In Amanda Ripley's article, "Yes! It's Time To Scale Back," she says
that, "new bleachers can cost half a million dollars," and they have to pay for uniforms, appliances,

Our Schools should continue sports after school because it would negatively affect our school.
I believe that school sports are important because of the 3 following reasons, Sports have a very
important role in the grades and GPA of students who participate, This helps keep our future
generations healthy, and finally that this boosts social benefits.
School sports are often associated with head injuries and bullying but there are more good side
effects than bad ones. One of the Good side effects is that schools sports boost grades. According to

There was more of a presence of meritocracy a number of years ago, and most schools have made
decisions to end streaming classes. Purely from a social inequity point of view this is a smart move.
We have already established that working class students fare less well so by streaming they would
more than likely be in the one class. Unfortunately Smyth et al (2004) states that streaming of
students is more prevalent in schools in disadvantaged areas which is the case in our schools. As
illustrated in Hart et al (2007) 'Government–sponsored initiatives to raise standards and improve
practice in schools have placed particular emphasis upon the need to differentiate by 'ability '. DEIS

After School Sports
After school sports have been around for decades and administrations have been discussing the topic
sports over academics. Students are more focused on sports than on school work. In addition, sports
cost the school a large amount of money. Therefore, school sports should be eliminated to improve
the US education standards to compete with other nations, to have more time for class work, and to
save the school more money. In order to improve academics, schools should consider disposing
sports. According to Amanda Ripley, students in other nations are "recognized more for their
academic achievements, not because they won a game". More specifically, America lags behind 20
nations in high school graduation rates because there is too much of an emphasis on sports. After

substitute teachers, meals and additional expenses all contribute to excessive costs to keep sports in

understand something they can come in during encore and do it. It also has a big interference with
extra curricular activities. Students, by the time they get home their tired enough they do not need
the extra school time it's too much on their minds. Another, reason is students would not take it
seriously anyway they would be talking and playing with their friends instead of working. Some
people think it would be good if the homework clubs were emphasized, but I say that it's just an
interference with people's after school life. If students need to catch up on work they can come in
during their encore and stay for a little while, and learn how to ... Show more content on

Take this as an example a student is a player for a football, basketball, baseball, soccer, or any other
sports team and their a starter, but the student stays after school a lot to catch up on work and now
their on the bench because they could not come in during their encore and catch up on some makeup
work. Furthermore, it just shows the coach their not dependable so he either kicks them from the
team or benches them for the season. Another, reason is that the student does not need to suffer a
benched year just because they were sick for a couple of days and they have to stay after school and
do their work. Students when they get home they are already tired enough they do not need the extra
school time it will just tear them apart. They will be so wore out that when they get to school the
next day their already too tired and they fall asleep on the bus and in the classrooms, and maybe
even encore. Students need their sleep especially when it's on a big test day, or even on a special
school day they need their sleep so I do not think that the homework clubs should be emphasized I
think that the students should either do it in class or in encore instead of after

Experiencing After High School
The most significant challenge that I had to overcome was what was I going to do after high school,
was I going to continue my education in a community or a UC school or, was I going to stop there
and just begin in the workforce.
There are four steps that I am positive everyone has done but everyone has failed to realize it. Those
4 steps where to attend the 4 years here at Godinez! Although this sounds crazy I truly believe that 4
years in high school helped me overcome this challenge. Throughout the years you learn more and
more on what you truly want to do after high school.
Freshmen year I came in not even knowing what I was going to do after but that was ok as I was just
starting the first year. Sophomore year came around and now we

Working After High School
Work is a very important thing in peoples' lives because it can help people to get money they need to
live and to develop peoples' skills in work. Some people think that children within upper teenage
should do part–time job during weakends and vacations. Others believe that people should not do
job during studying age. In my view, I think that children between age 16–18 years should work, for
these two important reasons. First, working in a upper teenage can help people decide their majors.
This is important to help students know what to do in future. For example, when I had sixteen years
old, I started wondering what major I would study after high school. So, I decided to work in
different fields to help me decide my major. I decided to study pharmacy when I worked as a
pharmacy technician. So, I like helping people and I found in my work in the pharmacy that
pharmacists have great role in helping people to take their medications. So, pharmacists can counsel
patients about how they can use their medications and also pharmacists encourage patients to take
medications to heal from their diseases. Fortunately, my work at the high school's age enabled me to

This is very important for students' lives after high school. For instance, as I mentioned before, I
started to work when I had sixteen years old. That helped me to get about five thousand dollars from
my work. And, that enabled me after the graduation from the high school to live alone in a small
dorm on Phoenix campus university. So, I used my saved money to pay my tuition of studying in
university. Also, I started to use the money that I got from my work in the pharmacy to pay for the
rent of my dorm. As a result, the money that I got from my work helped me to start studying
pharmacy immediately after the graduation from the high school. As you can see, how work is
important for students to help them study in

Why We Should Not Have To Do After School
Almost all schools have extracurricular activities that you can do after school. Most schools don't
require their students to participate in any of these activities, but it's a good thing that not all schools
require it. The reason schools shouldn't require students to participate in activities after schools are
because many kids don't have time, they may not like any of the activities, and it can put stress on
parents.
A lot of kids don't have time to stay after school because of extracurricular activities outside of
school like sports, or even just getting home and then going out to play with friends. Another reason
kids don't have time is because of how much homework students have. Many students get lots of
homework, and activities after schools can t ake away time for students to do homework. ... Show

If the kids don't want to do the activity then they will be bored and if they are bored then they won't
want to do any work for the activity. Another thing is, since they don't want to take part in any of the
activities it is a waste of time that could be spent doing homework or finishing other school work.
Plus being in these activities can distract kids from their school work and my effect their
participation and work in class because they will not have a break from school work.
Last but not least, being in an after school activity can cause stress on parents. Many parents have
jobs that don't end until late, which mean that some kids will be stuck at school without a ride, or
parent will have to leave work early to get their kids. Leaving work early can effect parents
paychecks and can also result in them losing their job. Not only do parents have lots of stuff to do at
work, but when they get home they still will have a lot of work to do at home, like making dinner,
laundry, or maybe they just want to get home to watch their favorite TV

Life After High School
You have until wed
On Your Own For this POW, we are trying to make a plan financially for life after high school. I am
making a budget based on an estimated income based on my desired job and all expenses that
people living on their own have to pay now. I am researching any expenses I will have to pay later
in life and factoring them into my budget.
For my job I have selected to be an electrician. Straight out of high school base pay would start at a
salary of $55,000/year before tax. After tax reduction I will have an estimated $48,067/year of
bring–home income. I found this job on a job board for high paying jobs with only a high school
diploma required, it wasn't the highest paying job, but it fit my interests and had decent pay. My
hours would be a normal 8 hour day except instead of the average 9–5 I would work more so
somewhere around 7 am to 3 pm. I will sometimes have to start at 7 and not get off until 5
depending on when I finish my last scheduled job. For any overtime work after the scheduled time
of a job, the average rate would be about $30.00/hour past the scheduled time of the job. ... Show

I would live in Miami because I have always dreamed of living in Florida and my roommates and I
found a very reasonably priced apartment in Miami. Our apartment has 2 bedrooms and the rent is
$284/month per person. The apartment does have a large security deposit fee of $3000 due to the
amount of furniture included in the apartment. This will be split among the three of us and we will
each pay $1000 before moving in. This will only be paid once though. Although the apartment is
furnished, I would estimate roughly $1000 for extra

Stereotypes After School
Have you ever been judged before for the smallest and unimportant things you can imagine? Or
maybe you have seen others getting judged for the way they act or dress. On September 16, at James
Giles School 7th and 8th graders were having lunch and recess. The students were having a good
time talking playing games and eating lunch naturally having a good time. A group of 7th grade girls
were talking and suddenly another girls joined them. The girls that joined them was their friend
because they would go to the park together and walk together after school. The girls didn't like the
idea of joining them. The girls started being mean and judging her of what she wore to school.
People that judge others in a mean way know that its mean and hurtful

Pros And Cons Of After School Programs
When parents sign their child up for school they expect for their child to be on their best behavior
and to bring home good grades. In order for that to happen the child's should listen to the teacher
and develop strong skills in their weakest subject in class. If the teacher feels that the child should
be in an after school program to have one on one time with the child than the teacher needs to speak
to the parent to recommend that the child needs after school help. Why do the faculty members feel
that no child should be left behind?
The no child left behind program is one program that all parents and teachers should look in because
it improves the child's teaching ability, learning, and school improvement skills. This type of
program helps

The Need for Quality After School Programs in American...
The Need for Quality After School Programs in American Schools
Since the fall of 1997 America has experienced a rapid increase in the number of school shootings.
These crimes have been completely non–discriminate towards either social status or ethnicity. What
these incidents do have in common is the fact that students between the ages of 10 to 16 committed
them. When later interviewed, most of the students who instigated these crimes reported feeling like
"loners" or "outcasts" within their student body and communities. It has been the direct effect of
these violent acts that people across America are looking towards permanent solutions for these
problems and the need for quality after–school programs has come into the national ... Show more

Children, families and communities can all benefit greatly from quality after–school programs. The
majority of the time spent by unsupervised children and youth is either watching television or with
peers in unsupervised activities. Quality after–school programs provide a safe, supervised
environment for these young people and children. After–school programs also provide structured
supervised activities, which improves the overall learning process. The students involved in quality
after–school programs create more positive relationships with their peers and also with caring
responsible adults with whom these students can foster lasting bonds. This in turn helps to harvest
students with a higher level of self–esteem. Students that perform better in academics as well as
develop stronger social skills.
In his speech on the issue of childcare President Clinton said the following: "Improving after–school
care is integral to improving child care across our country... Through after–school programs we can
bring parents the peace of mind that comes with knowing their children are safe. We can teach our
children to say no to drugs and yes to reading, sports and computers." (The White House at Work
1/26/99) The president also mentioned his plan to provide these services to parents who could not

After-School Program Evaluation
Hispanic student's achieving academic success is the paramount goal of our organization. Therefore,
evaluation of the programs served is imperative in order to provide these minority students and their
parents exceptional services. By providing effective, organized and sustainable programs, our
organization will edge closer to achieving its goal of bridging the achievement gap in all academic
subjects for Hispanic students, increasing the number of Hispanic students that attend college and
increasing academic self–efficacy amongst this minority group.
The translation program is indispensable because according to the Migration Policy Institute 41
percent of people living in American are Limited English Proficient. Therefore, providing
translation services for parent and teacher conferences, reading of important documents and
communicating with school administration will be very important. The way this program will be

Therefore, for this program, we will use the group interview evaluation process that is mentioned in
the Kellogg Foundation "Evaluation Handbook" led by the coordinator. This meeting will take place
monthly in order to be aware of changes that need to be made. We believe that interviewing the
college volunteers that are serving as tutors for our after school program will be exceedingly
beneficial. This process will provide the organization with feedback on what improvements should
be made in order to help the students more effectively. This feedback will be summarized into a
document for review by other staff member and the coordinator who will then implement changes
accordingly. The group setting will allow for volunteers to mention things they would not have

Essay On After School Tutoring
I'm primarily focused on volunteering at a local middle school, West Cary Middle School, for after
school tutoring to kids who are in need of a little extra help with any of their school subjects. This is
something that I'm very passionate about and have done since my junior year of high school and aim
to continue doing throughout college. One of the goals of the after school tutoring program is to help
children that are a little behind in their school work to catch up with their classmates on materials
such as reading, homework, and lesson concepts. Another goal is to re–explain a lesson a child
might have not quite understood in the classroom or provide a little extra clarification that is needed
on a subject. It's also a goal of the program to have a mentor who not only helps ... Show more

Being a mentor in the program I would be responsible for making sure I can clearly explain topics in
subjects such as English, Math, and Science and develop teaching techniques that would suit each
student such as, if a student was to be a visual learner then I would provide real life scenarios in
mathematical problems to make it easier for them to visualize a problem, to understand it, and solve
it. Also I would be responsible for giving wise and unbiased advice about topics such as high school,
friends, college, how to go about balancing studying and play time, etc.. My reason for choosing this
program is because I feel it addresses one of the key problems some middle school students face,
and that is academics. When I was in middle school this program was also available for me and it
helped me get better on my studying skills, be better prepared for a test or an exam, and not fall
behind on my lessons or homework. It was also one of the key reasons I stayed motivated to read
ahead and study early outside of the tutoring

After School Dropouts
Do after–school programs help close the academic gap in African American and Latino middle
school students?
Many middle school students who are failing academically will become part of the ever–increasing
drop out statistics in our nation. More than 7000 students in the U.S.become dropouts every school
day, nearly 1.3 million students per year. It is estimated that dropouts from 2006 alone will cost
taxpayers $17 billion in Medicaid and uninsured medical expenses alone over the ir lifetimes
(Alliance for Excellence Education, 2010). Sadly, dropouts often have children that become
dropouts and a cycle is created which continues (Dropout and TruancyPrevention,2011). Given
these statistics and costs to society, it is imperative that we seek solutions to this problem.
The concern for at–risk students and dropout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Young adolescents offer afterschool providers a special set of challenges which they must overcome
in order to attract and retain participants. For example, young adolescents are more autonomous,
busier, better able and more likely to articulate specific needs, and less appeased by activities
designed for a general audience. While youth in grades six through eight can clearly benefit from
participation in afterschool, programs must recognize the needs of these youth and employ
innovative strategies to attract and keep them engaged.
The goal was to also gain a better understanding of the perceptions of administrators, teachers, and
students in order to determine which aspects of the afterschool program were perceived as engaging
and served to promote student achievement. As schools struggle to meet federal achievement
standards, after–school programs being viewed as a source of academic support for youth at risk of
school failure. Including a disproportionally large number of economically disadvantaged and ethnic

Are Students Successful After School
Envision yourself waking up at 5 a.m, getting to school at 6:30 a.m, eat breakfast at school and go to
class for an hour and a half. You repeat this every time until you graduate. Moreover, you stay in
after–school programs for the rest of the week. You probably can't even imagine yourself doing this
on a daily basis. Nevertheless, in order to increase student success at Anaheim Schools, more time
during school will help improve students' learning. According to Malcolm Gladwell's research
article, "Marita's Bargain" state's, "...children went to school and public school was comprehensive,
meaning that all children got enough schooling to learn how to read and do basic arithmetic function
as productive citizens" (5). In another statement from Mr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This backs up my argument because these children are pushed to be at school more time so they can
learn and be successful. We complain about staying at school longer while these children are kind of
forced to stay in school. Many of these kids don't go home until seven in, which can result in having
problems with their parents. At Anaheim Schools, yes there are students who stay until seven or
eleven due to programs that they are in, but they do this every day. It is a routine for them to do.
You are in class ready to hear the teacher lecture. She goes over of what she taught yesterday. The
teacher asks does everyone get it. Some students say yes while others say no. You are the student
who has a growth mindset. A growth mindset is someone who believes that their basic abilities can
be developed through dedication and hard work. At Anaheim Schools, student success can be
increased by helping students expand their growth mindset. In the scientific article, "Secret to
Raising Smart Kids", by Carol Dweck, "Such children hold an implicit belief that intelligence is
innate and fixed, making striving to learn to seem far less important

After High School At Mideast
One of my hardest decisions was to come to school at Mideast. I almost considered going back to
my home school at the beginning of my first year, but i'm happy I stayed. Because I will have more
opportunities in the work force. For example my lab got me a job at Neff's during the summer for
landscaping. It was a good job for the summer and it paid way better than minimum wage.
Mideast has taught me to strive for greatness. My lab instructor shows us all how to work hard and
not be lazy. He also has shown us many useful skills for use after high school.
Mideast wasn't how I pictured it at first it's a lot different than the tours from 8th grade show. You
have so much more freedom to do things here. Mideast gives you a better taste of what

After School Programs: Benefits for At–Risk Adolescents Introduction Do you believe that the
background that adolescents extend from should place limits on their success? Your answer is most
likely no. After school programs are one way to support and positively influence adolescents as a
whole where externalizing circumstances may present obstacles. After school programs are essential
for at–risk adolescents, because they provide social, behavioral, and academic benefits. The After
School Alliance's 2014 America After 3pm Report notes that as of 2014, eighteen percent of
juveniles in the United States are active in after school programs, a three percent increase since

After School Meeting Analysis

  • 1. After School Meeting Analysis Chapter six in the book, When Grief Visits School informs the reader about the importance of conducting before and after school meetings after a crisis occurs and also highlights key steps involved in this process. It suggests that a school have a calling tree in place to get out adequate and accurate information regarding the crisis situation. Current facts and details to help clarify and dispel rumors 2. An introduction of the crisis response team 3. Outlining a plan for the school day such as how to announce to students, a parent letter, availability of substitute teachers, the location of crisis center for students, and how to get students to the crisis center. 4. Ideas for staff dealing with students 5. Support for staff 6. Maintaing a normal routine as closely as possible 7. Dealing with media 8. Memorials 9. Meeting with teachers who directly worked with the student 10. Plans for the after school meeting Something very important in developing your meeting plans is to clarify who is in charge. After School Programs Benefits The Output is Bigger than the Input When most people hear the words "after school program," the first thoughts that cross their minds are often associated with babysitting. However, that is not the case. An after school program is a place where children are able to grow and develop their developmental skills. After school programs are able to help children in impoverished neighborhood, are able to stop the cycle of poverty, and are able to create new circumstances for their lives (After School Alert Issue Brief). A belief shared throughout most after school programs is that they should serve in areas of all socioeconomic classes. In a government website, District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) make a point that, "Afterschool programs allow students to participate in academic and extracurricular enrichment activities and are able to develop new hobbies and skills. DCPS teachers, paraprofessionals, and community–based organizations provide a variety of unique programming options to students" (Afterschool Programs). DCPS teachers not only help students with homework problems or assignments, but they do their best to provide students with lessons that go beyond a child's homework. Children are able to acquire instrumental skills early. Over the years, children will be building on their skill to be stronger physically as well as mentally. After school programs benefit children in the present and in the future. Sarah Gaillot and Nicole Maestas, who both have done extended research on after school programs, wrote the book, An Outcome Evaluation of the Success for the Kids Program. In chapter two "Title Program Description", Gaillot and Maestas bring to our attention that "SKF (Spirituality for Kids) curriculum is based on established best practices in the resiliency literature that seek to build four area of personal strength: social competence, problem solving, autonomy or self–efficacy, and sense of purpose (Gaillot, Maestas). Children learn communication skills and are encouraged to use words and communicate their feelings instead of throwing a fit. There are many programs that bring awareness and prevention to alcohol and drugs. The after–school programs are essential in promoting awareness and prevention of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, abstinence, and violence to young children or adolescents. The importance of preventing children from drug usage starts at early ages. Education and school facilities can only occupy children for 7–8 hours a day. The rest of the afternoon leaves children vulnerable to negative influences. Most children use after–school programs as a way to stay out of trouble, escape the turmoil of being abused at home, or spend time with youth instead of being lonely and alienated. Benavente (2006) writes, "After–school program participation also helps to keep youth from skipping school and experimenting with alcohol, drugs and sexual activity"(pg. 1). Some children just need a role model or guidance in the right directions. Parents who are neglectful toward their children leave them at risk for major negative influences. However, a child's life can change by just reading, hearing, or meeting someone with inspirational words. Adults and environments have powerful influences on young adolescent minds. Recent research strongly suggests that well–designed programs are having significant effects on student behaviors (Learning Point Associates). Children who have too much free time after school without parental vision need to be involved in after–school programs. • 17. Effectiveness Of After School Programs Due to after school programs receiving public funding, questions arose as to if after school programs were effective. Effectiveness of after school programs, and funding is now measured by academic improvement of students who attend after school programs. Data on the effectiveness of after school programs have conflicting outcomes. Some studies found a significant increase in student's academics who attended after school programs (Durlak, Weissberg & Pachan 2010; Durlak &, Weissber, 2007). Others studies showed no significant gains in academic outcomes for students who attended after school programs (U.S. Department of Education, 2004; Dynarski, 2015). The methodology of studies on the effectiveness of after school programs has come into question. There are several types of after school programs, and the attendance of students varies. Some students attend five days a week, others once a month. Few of these studies factor varying attendance and programs into the studies. Lack of methodologically sound studies and dismal effect sizes have led to the publication of articles such as "The 1.2 billion afterschool program that doesn't work." Articles such as this advocate that after school programs have little effects on academics, and that the money for these programs would be better allocated to other programs (Dynarski, 2015) After school programs were initially created to give disadvantage youth a place to go after school (Halpern, 2002). Therefore, schools should not have after school activities because, students focus more on, sports then their school work, they take money away from the school when they could use it for better purposes, last, it takes too much time consuming . One day after leaving the dentist office I started thinking about how much I love going to the dentist and getting my teeth cleaned and checked on. These challenges range from education day in and day out, as well as, sometimes growing up in an impoverished family and community. Factors also include peers which these kids come into contact with at school, in the streets and at home. Kids today need more than ever an extra push of positive motivation from mentors. I believe that this constructive mentoring begins with after school programs. These programs allow kids to depend on their adviser as a friend; in result the kids emulate those mentors actions and requests. In retrospect, schools should offer ?an alternative to children spending large numbers of hours alone or with peers in inadequately supervised activities? (Working, 1). After High School In " Chicago schools to require graduating students to have plans for future by Emma Brown, the author was describing how you need a plan for the future so you can graduate is a good thing or a bad thing. I agree with it because it helps parents not stress about their child not knowing what to do after high school, it helps students stay focus on they grades knowing that they have a plan and helps students have a goal and a plan to rach what they want to do. The first reason on why having plan to graduate is important is that it helps parents be less stressed about their child plan after high school and more focused on their educations. I think that because in the texts the author said that " They see it as a way to level the playing field for teens whose parents aren't equipped to help them envision on where they want to go after high school"(brown2). As a result, 75 percent of parents approve of the curriculum that afterschool programs provide in helping give working parents a safe environment for their children (America After 3pm, 2014). Not only do the programs benefit students academic abilities, but can also give children a chance to interact with peers in a different environment. These activities are built around programs like dance, sports, and drama. Therefore, the mentor and mentee group presents an educational significance that is designed to have a positive influence on youths' outlook towards learning and aspects of life such as personal development and relationships with ... I dreamed of becoming a medical doctor, an archeologist or even a philosopher–certainly, I didn't have a real idea of what I wanted. During my senior year of high school, all these dreams were truncated after I was kicked out of my house at the middle of the year. When the time to choose a career came, I had fewer options due to the lack of economical support from my parents and because I had missed the opportunities to apply for scholarships. For these reasons, I started to look for the different options that I could get for free. I looked the different pedagogies, some engineering programs, among others; but I decided to study english ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 97. Against After School Research I am against after school homework clubs because it is just a waste of time because if they do understand something they can come in during encore and do it. It also has a big interference with extra curricular activities. Students, by the time they get home their tired enough they do not need the extra school time it's too much on their minds. Another, reason is students would not take it seriously anyway they would be talking and playing with their friends instead of working. Some people think it would be good if the homework clubs were emphasized, but I say that it's just an interference with people's after school life. Furthermore, it just shows the coach their not dependable so he either kicks them from the team or benches them for the season. Another, reason is that the student does not need to suffer a benched year just because they were sick for a couple of days and they have to stay after school and do their work. Students when they get home they are already tired enough they do not need the extra school time it will just tear them apart. They will be so wore out that when they get to school the next day their already too tired and they fall asleep on the bus and in the classrooms, and maybe even encore. Students need their sleep especially when it's on a big test day, or even on a special school day they need their sleep so I do not think that the homework clubs should be emphasized I think that the students should either do it in class or in encore instead of after ... Some people think that children within upper teenage should do part–time job during weakends and vacations. Others believe that people should not do job during studying age. In my view, I think that children between age 16–18 years should work, for these two important reasons. First, working in a upper teenage can help people decide their majors. This is important to help students know what to do in future. For example, when I had sixteen years old, I started wondering what major I would study after high school. So, I decided to work in different fields to help me decide my major. I decided to study pharmacy when I worked as a pharmacy technician. So, I like helping people and I found in my work in the pharmacy that pharmacists have great role in helping people to take their medications. So, pharmacists can counsel patients about how they can use their medications and also pharmacists encourage patients to take medications to heal from their diseases. • 109. Why We Should Not Have To Do After School Almost all schools have extracurricular activities that you can do after school. Most schools don't require their students to participate in any of these activities, but it's a good thing that not all schools require it. The reason schools shouldn't require students to participate in activities after schools are because many kids don't have time, they may not like any of the activities, and it can put stress on parents. A lot of kids don't have time to stay after school because of extracurricular activities outside of school like sports, or even just getting home and then going out to play with friends. Another reason kids don't have time is because of how much homework students have. Many students get lots of homework, and activities after schools can t ake away time for students to do homework. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the kids don't want to do the activity then they will be bored and if they are bored then they won't want to do any work for the activity. Plus being in these activities can distract kids from their school work and my effect their participation and work in class because they will not have a break from school work. Last but not least, being in an after school activity can cause stress on parents. Many parents have jobs that don't end until late, which mean that some kids will be stuck at school without a ride, or parent will have to leave work early to get their kids. Leaving work early can effect parents paychecks and can also result in them losing their job. I am making a budget based on an estimated income based on my desired job and all expenses that people living on their own have to pay now. I am researching any expenses I will have to pay later in life and factoring them into my budget. For my job I have selected to be an electrician. Straight out of high school base pay would start at a salary of $55,000/year before tax. After tax reduction I will have an estimated $48,067/year of bring–home income. I found this job on a job board for high paying jobs with only a high school diploma required, it wasn't the highest paying job, but it fit my interests and had decent pay. My hours would be a normal 8 hour day except instead of the average 9–5 I would work more so somewhere around 7 am to 3 pm. The Need for Quality After School Programs in American Schools Since the fall of 1997 America has experienced a rapid increase in the number of school shootings. These crimes have been completely non–discriminate towards either social status or ethnicity. What these incidents do have in common is the fact that students between the ages of 10 to 16 committed them. When later interviewed, most of the students who instigated these crimes reported feeling like "loners" or "outcasts" within their student body and communities. Essay On After School Tutoring I'm primarily focused on volunteering at a local middle school, West Cary Middle School, for after school tutoring to kids who are in need of a little extra help with any of their school subjects. This is something that I'm very passionate about and have done since my junior year of high school and aim to continue doing throughout college. One of the goals of the after school tutoring program is to help children that are a little behind in their school work to catch up with their classmates on materials such as reading, homework, and lesson concepts. Also I would be responsible for giving wise and unbiased advice about topics such as high school, friends, college, how to go about balancing studying and play time, etc.. My reason for choosing this program is because I feel it addresses one of the key problems some middle school students face, and that is academics. When I was in middle school this program was also available for me and it helped me get better on my studying skills, be better prepared for a test or an exam, and not fall behind on my lessons or homework. It is estimated that dropouts from 2006 alone will cost taxpayers $17 billion in Medicaid and uninsured medical expenses alone over the ir lifetimes (Alliance for Excellence Education, 2010). Young adolescents offer afterschool providers a special set of challenges which they must overcome in order to attract and retain participants. For example, young adolescents are more autonomous, busier, better able and more likely to articulate specific needs, and less appeased by activities designed for a general audience. While youth in grades six through eight can clearly benefit from participation in afterschool, programs must recognize the needs of these youth and employ innovative strategies to attract and keep them engaged. The goal was to also gain a better understanding of the perceptions of administrators, teachers, and students in order to determine which aspects of the afterschool program were perceived as engaging and served to promote student achievement. According to Malcolm Gladwell's research article, "Marita's Bargain" state's, "...children went to school and public school was comprehensive, meaning that all children got enough schooling to learn how to read and do basic arithmetic function as productive citizens" (5).
