• Fiction refers to literature that is written about imaginary characters
and events and not based on real people and facts.
• Non-fiction refers to literature that is about real events and facts,
rather than stories that have been invented.

Folktale
• Today we are going to read a folktale from the
African country of Zimbabwe.
• What is a folktale?
• Folktales are stories with no known author.
• They are passed down from one generation to
another by word of mouth.
• Folktales were created to explain the wonders of
the world or teach morals/lessons.

Can you identify the main characters of the story?

Exercise
1. Now complete LB Page 21, exercise -1 by finding evidence to support the
characteristics of Manyara, Nyasha and Mufaro from the text. Read the text again to
find references from the story and write down the sentences as contextual evidence.
1. Now complete LB Page 22 exercise -1 and identify more features about the
characters.
1. Let’s make four group. Now discuss among yourselves
• Why do you think the King wanted to meet Mufaro’s daughters? Use your imagination to frame
your answers.
• Write down the reasons. One member from each group should read out the reasons.
