2. MURA MASA- DJ
• Alex Crossan (born 5 April 1996 in Guernsey, Channel Islands),
also known by the stage name Mura Masa (sometimes stylised
as Mura Masa) is an English DJ, electronic music producer,
songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. His stage name is taken
from Japanese sword-smith Muramasa Sengo.
• He’s also the founder of Anchor Point Records.
• After performing and working with music in a variety of genres
in his teens, he began to focus on electronic music. At age 17,
his career began to take flight as his track “Lotus Eater’ was
picked up by BBC Radio 1, and played by Zane Lowe and Annie
Mac. He gained more attention for his 2014 mixtape Soundtrack
to a Death, and his 2015 EP Someday Somewhere. His 2017
debut album, entitled Mura Masa, included tracks featuring
American rapper Desiigner and British Pop Artist Charli XCX.
3. KIDS- FILM
• Mura Masa visualised the video for ‘Love$ick’ from the
film Kids
• AIDS, sex, drugs, New York City, the 1990s, teenagers: six
words that defined that most provocative movie of the
decade. Directed by city staple Larry Clark and written by
noob Harmony Korine, Kids was a fictionalized glimpse
into what 24 hours as a New York City teen looked like,
starring real (then-unknown) New York City teens Leo
Fitzpatrick, Chloë Sevigny, and Rosario Dawson. Twenty
years later, the film still holds up as every parent’s worst
nightmare and remains a classic portrait of American
youth culture. Reminisce about the film that opened up
your life with these bits you might not know about Kids.
4. JORJA SMITH
• Jorja Smith (Walsall, 1997) is an English
singer/songwriter. She debuted with her single “Blue
Lights” in 2016 which she recorded and released while
working at at Starbucks.
• Smith released her debut EP Project 11 on November
17th 2016 to rave reviews, and then gained further
notoriety by collaborating with Drake on his 2017
project More Life.
5. YONI LAPPIN
• Yoni has so far directed all of Mura Masa’s music
videos and also Nao’s ‘Girlfriend’. I really appreciate his
style with a a style similar to the effect of polariods.
• The video for ‘All Around The World’ was shot by
drone but still has an effect to match with Masa and
Lappin’s creative style. The use of a drone was creative
and modern, they also decided to shoot in one take
which meant a real performance from Desiigner.
