Looking back at your Prelim Tast, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full Product?
1. I have learned a great deal from the beginning of creating
my media magazine. I have created a prelim magazine, a
hip-hop magazine called 'Sharp' and a final magazine with
partner Josh called 'Lyric'.
2. Perhaps the most important lesson I learned during the process
of creating my product was which programs to use. I created my
prelim on Microsoft Word. I moved on from this and created my
'Sharp' Magazine on Photoshop. For the creation of 'Lyric'
Magazine, I used a much larger range on programs. For example,
the final product was done on InDesign, however I also used
Photoshop to develop and edit images.
3. I also learned from talking to people who fit the category
of my target audience that colour is important. Looking
back at the prelim tasks, I can now see that my new
product is much more eye catching, and this is partly
down to the vibrant colours that are used.
4. From the experience of creating a Prelim magazine, enabled me to
know the importance of having lots of images to choose from. This
was because during the Prelim magazine, and also the magazine I
made called ‘Sharp’ I had limited photographs. Because of this, areas
of my previous magazines looked bare.
In order to progress and take steps forward, I made sure that I took
lots of photographs from a variety of angles.
5. The biggest progress and improvement that I have made I believe is the
double page spread. I learned that it was important to have a variety of
images, so I therefore took a lot more photos and had more to choose
from. The photos themselves have been adapted to make look more
interesting, and this will improve the magazine and also the enjoyment
that my audience will gain from reading.
Josh and I used YouTube to our advantage and learned how to add text
to images.
6. Another improvement made on our product compared to the prelim
tasks, is the use of font. We learned about online sights such as
‘DaFont’ and this enables us to found hundreds of different types of
font. We also learned lots about the research element of production.
Researching other music magazines allowed us to see how other fonts
worked well, and ultimately Josh and I decided to pick a font that was
focused around the main element of the article – Girl Power.
7. In my final product, there is also a lot more emphasis and focus
on online features, technology and websites. This is because
after doing more research, the best magazines that I have looked
at have websites. It is also because in modern society, the
majority of people now have smart phones, and instantly
recognize these phones and brands such as apple. We have
therefore included lots of features, and also an image of an
iPhone to connect more with our audience and give them the
opportunity gain more from the magazine.
