2. Character development Our stalker was played brilliantly by Max Tonkin who took on the role like a professional... He embraced the role and was more than happy to ad lib when ever he could. We introduce this character as a shadow coming out of a bush closely behind our protagonist Natalie Coombes. Natalie played the victim and in her role found it more challenging than max to get into character. Once she found out the way to act the character out and be able not to break character by laughing she really embraced it and did fantastacally.
3. Evaluation 2-How does our media project represent particular social groups. We wanted to show a definite stereotype through the female protagonist. We wanted a classic blonde bimbo to be the victim. Such as the girl in “the scary movie” franchise. We thought the audience would be able to find simularties in them selves but mostly in their friends. This is because nobody likes to admit they are a bit of a bimbo... We did however want to challenge a stereotype, we wanted the movie to progress as the girl finds power over the stalker and unlike most films make her the strong, powerful character which would usually be given to male character. Finally we didnt want to include the typical romance aspect into a film, at first there was an idea that a character would be created to send the search party for the missing girl and he would become the love interest but we decided agaisntthe idea.
4. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products e.g.. Film openings. The title of the film was something we really had to look at and it took as a long time to settle on a title that we all really enjoyed and agreed on. Once that was set we looked at appearance. There was a theme we wanted and that was mysterious. We3 did this by having a snappy, quick title and presented with a black backdrop and white writing. The font of our title was as important as anything because we wanted a font that would match a typical figure of a creep... Tall, thin and boring. That's why we chose this font.
5. Setting/location The idea of our piece was based on a stalker/kidnap theme. We looked at many films to try gain insparation for a particular looking location to shoot. For example the scream film franchise were based in a small town... Never really sunny and often dark and ominous. We also looked for props and necessary back drops to have in each scene. We got this idea from “ jeepers creepers” which actually inspired our name also. The first attempt of filming we went to the park to film by an old playground with a swing and a slide to get a slightly creepy tone. The idea was there and we were more than happy to follow it. Things didnt quite go to plan and a schedule problem caused us to have to start again. We thought very carefulywethere to go back to there or start completely fresh and in the end we filmed in a very recluse area of “Burbage” which gave us a chance to be able to stretch the idea of the melancholy background.
6. Story The story of our opening was one of a boy becomes infatuated with a beautiful girl. Slowly he starts to follow her and take images and as her life progresses so does his collection. It will eventually get to the stage where she becomes suspicious and in a game of cat and mouse the audience is never completely sure who is chasing who... Is the girl trying to find out what this boy wants or is the boy trying to lure her into his lair for her never be seen again? We did the opening in a sequence of flash forwards and flashbacks so the audience has an idea what’s going to happen but is never really sure. Personally I really enjoyed the idea and i found it exciting seeing the characters develop as our ideas became deeper.
7. Evaluation 3 What kind of media institution distribute your movie? I personally belive the insitution that would distribute our film would be either “dark Castle” or Channel 4 because of their selection of movies in the same category as our thriller/horror but this is all explained in a directors commentary already on my blog.
8. Evaluation 4 Audience. Our audience was a very important aspect of our film in which we carefully researched finding out from all a huge number of people in our targeted audience, trying to find out what they would like in an upcoming thriller. We were able to find out that there is not enough girl heros in the movies out at this moment and if the opportuinity arose to have the chance to visit the cinema and be able to watch a film where for once the man was the bad "creep" rather than the sublime underlining hero. We based the audience around 16-25 an age were visiting the cinema with friends is still a very important hobby and what most people would choose to do.
