1. This is our print advert compared to a proffessional channel 4 print advert advertising
hollyoaks. As you can see the channel 4 logo is framed in the same place in both posters,
and the slogan is positioned on both in the bottom left hand corner.
2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?
I personally feel that the main product and ancillary text combination is very
effective and informative as the documentary, radio trailer and print
advertisement all include the same title Persistent Fear so they instantly relate to
one other they all include the key theme of fear and phobias as the Print
advertisement image is of a girl clenching a red quilt to show that she is
protecting/hiding herself from her fear.Only a fraction of her face is visible and
her eyes express how frightened she is.This has a similar effect as the vox pops
exerts in the radio trailer As this is all the audience can catch a glimpse of it adds
a sense of mystery which will hopefully make the audience yearn to see more.
The background of this advertisement is black which contrasts with the image of
the girl and makes her the central focus. The colours black and red connotate
danger and create a sinister feeling. The Channel 4 logo has also been inverted in
to white to clash against the black setting as for the title, date, time and slogan is
placed in a white box so they can be clearly seen.As it is important for the
audience to take note of this information. This information is also revealed during
the radio advert so that the audience know exactly where and when they can tune
in to watch the documentary and the scheduling is mentioned at the end of the
trailer to reinforce this in the audiences mind. The slogan "Everybodys scared of
something" is used consistentley through the radio trailer and Print Ad so they
instantly hint as to what the documentary will be based upon and this will also
clarify that the documentary will appeal to everybody (as we all have a fear of
something) not only this but both methods of advertisement will relate to each
other.Fear is promoted in the documentary through the realistic cutaways of the
tarantula and other animals as these are known as common phobia. The
reconstruction demonstrates fear as it is revolved around building suspense with
the colour being in black and white mode and the dramatic heart beat sound
effect. The girls scream also highlights fear and draws parralel with the print
advert as the reaction shot signigys fear similar to the firghtened girl on the print.
Suspense is also gradually built up through the radio advert as for the first 5
seconds the tone and dynamics of the voice over has been altered almost so it
sounds like a deep and low male voice it does however slightly get higher so it
similar to a echoe and the repetition of fear also reflects the themes of all the
advertisements. The vox pops and soudn effects of the screaming cat, hissing
snake and laughing clown have a similar effect as the cutaways do as they all
remind the audience of the common types of phobia and the sound will help the
audience create a visual image in their mind and sustain their interest. The
soundtrack for the radio trailer has been extracted from youtube and this is called
2. scary carnival music which sets the theme for the radio as it sounds creepy and
chilling especially with a mixture of the low voicover and sound effects. The voice
over also shows continuity throughout the documentary and radio advertisement
as it is the same voice of a young female who was purousefully chosen as she has
a distinct and enthusiastic tone which should also focus the audiences attention
duing the radio trailer.
