1. Comparing the Advert
My advert is based on other adverts that I have seen that link in with the kinds of
theme and styles that are in keeping with my genres conventions. In the research
section of the project, I looked at many adverts front covers and did detailed
analysis on two that really stood out to me, in each description I have
commented on the uses of the color and why that has been used and how it
relates too the meaning and concept, also to the use of font and the meaning and
design around that particular style. Having looked though multiple adverts
during the research and planning stages I learnt how to structure one and what I
needed to do to make sure that I had the right things on there as well as elements
that linked to the whole theme. The advert is one of the ancillary texts and is
important in the project and the record label as a way of promoting, advertising
and selling the music and the music video/album, the key convention of the
advert starts with making it stand out and attract the audience in to gather
interest about the song. The attractive look of the advert relies ultimately on a
few key points, firstly the size, there is no point in having a advert/poster that
has a lot of information on and themed photos and text if the size is too small for
the audience to catch up at a distance, second the imagery, most adverts I have
analyzed including the ones that I include in my comparisons and past advert
analysis have a main image that sums the magazine or articles main story or
issue for its readers this could be anything from one person to a location or place
that links to what the story is about, its this that tends to be the major attractive
part of the advert. The next part is the use of text and font, the positioning of the
text/words around the advert cover is very important in the structure and
makeup, normally it follows set layout styles that define the
company’s/artists/record labels theme or style but some times text positioning
will be down to the use of imagery and the color’s that have been used in certain
places. Font plays one of the most important parts in the presentation and the
overall professionalism and quality of the advert as well as the digipak and it is
important to keep continuity on these projects especially in regards to font sizing
and color usage. Other elements such as the production logo and main title are
also very important in showing that this is a real company and that It looks
professional and that what this shows contrasts the other projects so that it is
correctly advertising instead of showing something that is different to what goes
on in the music video. Extra information such as the star ratings that the music
video has received from real music based magazines also provides that extra
glow to the feeling about the song but of the company as it aims to boost the
representation, the use of the social media logos such as Facebook and twitter
also helps provide extra publicity for the bands online pages which gives the
chance to post extra info or band news and digital content to lots of people at a
time with little or no change and gives the artists a better chance at reaching
music larger audiences including the younger generation which are the main
uses of this technology. The key features that I have stated above I feel are the
main elements in designing, developing and producing an advert and these are
the areas I have tried to really focus on when thinking of ways to bring what I
was planning and creating in the music video to life in the advert. Many of the
items talked about I have picked out from adverts I have looked at not just in my
own alternative rock genre but also in the wider music industry. In relation to
2. the contrast I have looked at the dark and detailed meaning that my song has and
tried to show that in the structure of the advert by the use of the main image of
jack which represents the loneliness and the fact that nobody is there which
links directly with the song writers message and the music video I have created,
the other way I have shown the feeling of emptiness’s the use of the font which
looks like a stencil drawing for the text. And the straight forward block colors
and font. My use of the red and blue colors which are apparent in the video and
production logo are there to represent the cold and warm times he (the main
character) has faced in his life, they are also there to show contract between the
sun scenes and the cold night scenes in the video and digipak. Below are some of
the adverts, which I looked at and focused on in the making of my advert.
