There will now be even more
to love at a Fall River
landmark, Barcelos Bakery.
Located at 695 Bedford
Street and known for their
coffee, Portuguese pastries,
cakes, bread, sandwiches and
soup, Barcelos has recently
acquired the former
Ventura’s Pharmacy, which
abuts the bakery for
expansion purposes.
The expansion included a
complete overhaul of the
former Pharmacy to include
a comfortable seating area
for customers, which will
include seating both inside
and outside of the café. In
addition to the physical ex-
pansion, the café will now
have additional menu offer-
ings for its patrons.
Antonio and Sara Rodrigues,
who have owned and operat-
ed the bakery since 2004
have worked hard to main-
tain the quality offerings that
Barcelos has long been
known for while expanding
their menu selections to meet
customer demands.
The Rodrigues’ dream to
own a café similar to the
type of cafe one would find

in Portugal and unlike any-
thing else offered in the
area began 15 years ago
when they were married.
They decided to start small
and grow over time, which
has served as a very suc-
cessful business model for
them thus far.
The expanded product line
will include ice cream, new
sandwiches, appetizer plat-
ters that include toasts,
cheeses, etc, salad, yogurt
and fresh fruit among other
items. Party platters are
also available.
The Rodrigues’ are proud
of the establishment they
have built and are encour-
aged that this type of devel-
opment will help the com-
munity as a whole and
make Fall River a better
place for its citizens. Fur-
ther, they hope their hard
work and success will in-
spire other business owners
to do the same and invest in
our city. Attorney Ken-
neth Fiola, Jr., Executive
Vice President of the Fall
River Office of Economic
Development is pleased
with the recent Barcelos’
Bakery expansion noting,
“Barcelos’ expansion rep-
resents another milestone
in solidifying Fall River’s
reputation as the Culinary
Capital of the Southcoast.
People from throughout
the region come to Fall
River to enjoy its food and
baked goods. Each of Fall
River’s bakeries are
unique and I recommend
that people take the time to
visit and get to know
them.”
Barcelos Bakery is cur-
rently open 7 days per
week from 5am to 8pm.
