2. Who are the Gorillaz?
The Gorillaz are a English virtual band who were formed in 1998, and are still active
today. The creators of Gorillaz are Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. The band is also
made up of four animated characters who are 100% fictional, they are.. 2D, Noodle,
Russell Hobbs and Murdoc Niccals. All of these characters feature in the bands Music
Videos.

3. Jamie Hewlett
• Jamie Hewlett is a English comic book writer,
and is more known as the Co Creator of the
band, “The Gorillaz”.
• Jamie attended a school in his hometown of
Horsham, before moving on to Northbrook
College.
• He set up a fanzine with two other students
at his college, which brought him to the
attention of Brett Ewins, who then invited
him to create material for a new magazine.
• In 1998 Jamie and Damon Albarn created
the band, the Gorillaz. They had the
intention of keeping the band in a Animated
form. The band are in the Guinness World
Records, as the Most Successful Animated
Band.
4. Videos and Purpose of the Band.
• The Gorillaz use a animation technique called “Cell
Shading” which includes creating a 3D Model and shading
different parts of the object.
• The Gorillaz also use a high frame rate, which means their
videos are very smooth and clear.
• The 3D characters are Lip Synced, which means that it
looks like the characters are actually singing themselves.
• Jamie Hewlett had a good knowledge of Animation and
decided to create a animated band, and the Gorillaz were
founded.

7. 12 Principles Of Animation Within The Gorillaz
• The Gorillaz animated music video captured all 12 principles
of animation, however one that was key was ‘timing’, because
it was a music video, the sound had to run parallel to the
animation on screen. So if there was say a guitar solo, the
animated character had to look like he was playing a guitar to
seem much more realistic.
