8. Since Mary is Jesus’ mother, it must be concluded that
she is also the Mother of God: If Mary is the mother of
Jesus, and if Jesus is God, then Mary is the Mother of
God.
Although Mary is the Mother of God, she is not his
mother in the sense that she is older than God or the
source of her Son’s divinity, for she is neither. Rather,
we say that she is the Mother of God in the sense that
she carried in her womb a divine person—Jesus Christ,
God "in the flesh" (2 John 7, cf. John 1:14)—and in the
sense that she contributed the genetic matter to the
human form God took in Jesus Christ.
9. But His words show that Mary's blessedness as “Mother
of God” is not primarily based on her biological
maternity. Rather, “she conceived [her] Son in her mind
before she conceived Him in her womb — precisely in
faith!” (Redemptoris Mater, no. 13). And she is the
spritual mother of all the faithful.
Even more to the point for our purpose, Mary is precisely
the one who, more than anyone else, hears the word of
God and keeps it (cf. Lk 11:28). Mary's blessedness does
not relate only to a single graced episode, but rather
points to a discipleship — a motherhood — that
characterized her entire life. In other words, hers was a
living, active faith
10. Theodore of Mopsuestia
"When, therefore, they ask, ‘Is Mary mother of man or
Mother of God?’ we answer, ‘Both!’ The one by the very
nature of what was done and the other by relation"
(The Incarnation 15 [A.D. 405]).
11. Hippolytus
"[T]o all generations they [the prophets] have pictured
forth the grandest subjects for contemplation and for
action. Thus, too, they preached of the advent of God in
the flesh to the world, his advent by the spotless and God-
bearing (theotokos) Mary in the way of birth and growth,
and the manner of his life and conversation with men,
and his manifestation by baptism, and the new birth that
was to be to all men, and the regeneration by the laver [of
baptism]" (Discourse on the End of the World 1 [A.D.
217]).
12. Ephraim the Syrian
"Though still a virgin she carried a child in her womb,
and the handmaid and work of his wisdom became the
Mother of God" (Songs of Praise 1:20 [A.D. 351]).
13. Irenaeus
"The Virgin Mary, being obedient to his word, received
from an angel the glad tidings that she would bear
God" (Against Heresies, 5:19:1 [A.D. 189]).
15. Despite the sins of her members, the Church is
first and foremost the community of those who
are called to holiness and strive each day to
achieve it.
Live to the fullest
In this arduous path to perfection they feel
encouraged by her who is the "model of virtues".
The Council notes: "Devoutly meditating on her
and contemplating her in the light of the Word
made man, the Church reverently penetrates
more deeply into the great mystery of the
Incarnation and becomes more and more like
her Spouse" (Lumen gentium, n. 65).
16. Mary is all-holy. For the community of
believers she represents the paradigm of the
authentic holiness that is achieved in union
with Christ.
The Church lives by faith, seeing in her
"who believed that there would be a
fulfillment of what was spoken to her from
the Lord" (Luke 1:45), the first and perfect
expression of her faith.
17. Her example encourages the People of God
to practice their faith and to study and
develop its content, by keeping in their
heart and meditating on the events of
salvation.
Mary also becomes a model of hope for the
Church. In listening to the angel's message,
the Virgin first directs her hope to the
kingdom without end, which Jesus had been
sent to establish. She stands firm near the
cross of her Son, waiting for the divine
promise to be fulfilled. .
20. Redemptoris Mater
(Mother of the Redeemer)
“ Let it be done according to your word”
Pope John Paul II also reminded us that Mary “is
proposed to all believers as the model of faith
which is put into practice.
We can allow Mary's faith to provide practical
insights on how we can live out our faith. As the
pope said, the faithful not only venerate and
invoke Mary, “but also seek in her faith support for
their own” (Redemptoris Mater, no 27).
21. Our faith must be obedient. The obedience of faith
must be given to God as He reveals Himself, and
involves a complete submission of one's self to
God. At the Annunciation, Mary's fiat
(“let it be done,” Lk 1:38) demonstrates her complete
obedience to God and to His will for her. In fact it
was by means of her fiat, her obedient faith, that
“the mystery of the Incarnation was accomplished”
in accordance with God's plan
(Redempotoris Mater, no. 13). Vatican II highlighted
the importance of Mary's “obedient faith”:
24. “ My soul magnifies the Lord”
We must have a humble faith, which means
that we recognize it as an unmerited gift
from God.
Mary's hymn of praise, known as the
Magnificat, is a shining example of the
humble being exalted (Lk 14:11; 18:14).
Mary's perfect humility constantly leads her
to point to her divine Son.
32. It express the unconditional
Love of a Mother to His Son.
Imagine a Mother watching
Her Child Lying on the Cross.
33. Some people talk of a “born again” experience in
which they accept in faith Jesus as their personal
Savior. In reality, we are “born again” through the
waters of baptism, at which time we receive the
theological virtue of faith. Others speak of a
conversion or “reversion” experience that leads
them to (or back to) the Church.
All these ideas point to the truth that faith is a gift
that is received or revived at a given moment in
history. But if it were only a gift, then it would be
senseless to speak of Mary as a model of faith.
Who needs a model? Either you've got it or you
don't.
34. Mary is the preeminent model of a “lived faith.” She
advanced in her pilgrimage of faith, from the
Annunciation to Calvary and then to Pentecost,
faithful every step of the way. Having been assumed
into heaven, Mary is no longer on a pilgrimage herself,
but continues to be Stella Maris (“the star of the sea”),
a beacon of light for those of us still on the journey
home.
35. Mary is at the “epicenter” of the Incarnation, since it
was in her womb that the word was made flesh! She
wondered at what Gabriel's greeting meant (Lk 1:29),
and through her pilgrimage of faith grew in wonder
and awe as she witnessed the fulfillment of the Lord's
words to her (cf. Lk 1:45).
36. We need to examine our consciences
and ask whether the Lord is really
the master of our lives — at home,
work, school, or even at church!
Our faith must be real, and
manifested by the way we live and
the choices we make.
37. Am I rooted to my FAITH???
Stand firm our Faith
Always bear in our MIND that;
“FAITH IS DEAD, IF WITHOUT ACTION ”
