2. A comparison which you can visually see
between the two different Double page
spreads would be that the way they are
layed out because they have an image on
one side and then have the text on the
other side, which I made sure I did on
mine because I didn’t want to have an
array of text or images on both sides.
WHY ?
A difference which you can see would
be the fonts between the two because
in mine the text is quite fancy and
classic where as in this existing product
it is very large and bold to make it stand
out to the audience. The reason which I
have gone for a more formal and classic
text would be because I don’t want it to
stand out I just want it to like the other
pages which I have made.
Another difference which you can see between
the two different double page spreads would be
the colour scheme because in the existing
product it is very bright and bold which is the
opposite to mine as I have gone for the classic
Black and white which doesn’t stand out as much
as the existing product. WHY ?
Another thing which I can see that are quite
similar would be the photography even though I
took my image of the internet both of them are
really detailed and with the effects I have put
on mine and the effect on the existing product
makes both of them stand out to the audience
at the same time being quite complicated to
make the effect work. WHY ? WHAT TOOLS ?
The final difference which I can see
between the two would be the
amount of text which I have
included in mine compared to the
existing product as I feel like they
where trying to get straight to the
point where as I have detail in mine
and you have to read all of it to
understand what I am talking
about. As I feel like that my work is
meant too be red in more detail as I
like the depth in the text.
3. The main difference which you can see
between the two would be the text for
the Masthead as you can see on the left
hand side the text for the Arsenal front
cover is quite small in comparison to my
Final project front cover because on
mine it takes up the whole of the front
cover. Also the other sections of text are
completely different in the fact they
have put multiple sections of text to
show the audience what they can expect
from the magazine where as in mine I
have put minimal text about what is
inside my magazine. WHY ?
Something which you can see which is
visually different between the two would
be the kind of photography which has
been used because in the Arsenal they
have used a mid range shot of the
footballer from the waist up and in mine I
have used an extreme close up of the ball
and the foot to make a in focus and then
the surroundings is really blurry which I
was trying to make. HOW DID YOU MAKE
THE IMAGE ?
Another difference that I could see would be the colour
scheme as in my magazine you can see that I have only
chose a few colours to showcase my magazine which
would include black, white and yellow as they all work well
with each other and also even though the text stands out
nothing much else stands out about my magazine, where
as you can see in the other magazine they have made sure
that they have surrounding colours which are based
around the kit which is white and red, with a slight bit of
gold which was the plan that I wanted to do to start with
but I couldn’t WHY ?
As a final difference which I can see between the two would be the way in which the magazine is
layed out because you can see that in the existing front cover they have everything layed out in a
specific order to try and help the audience find what they are looking for and also they have
chosen things to put on the front to stand out to the audience, where as you can see that in mine
although I have chosen to stand out to the audience it isn’t layed out as well as the other
because I didn’t really know what to do because I hadn’t made a front cover before. And you can
see which has had more effort put into it because mine is very simple at the same time as being
quite complicated. WHAT TOOLS – WHAT SOLUTIONS ?
Over all there are more
things which are different
between the two
compared to having
similarities, I would have
expected there to some
kind of similarity but in
this there are similarities
what so ever.
4. A comparison which you see between the
existing product and mine would be that both
of them are layed out in a similar way which
includes the bars at the top of the website
which will help you to get to other pages to
look for information which you are looking
for, but at the same time as being similar it is
different in certain things about how it is
layed out would have to be that in the
existing website there is content on the home
page which you can click on which isn’t the
tab at the top, and also there is load of
promotion where as in mine there is none.
WHY ?
Another difference which would be the way
in which they have shown the website to the
audience because you can see that mine is
very simple as I wanted the audience to have
to go to the next page to find out anything I
didn’t want to bombard them with
information from the get-go, where as you
can see that in the existing website they have
also made it quite simple but they have put
lots of information into the main page
because they want the audience to be more
inclined to go on the website, and spend
more time on that website compared to mine
Also another difference
that there is between
mine and the existing
website would be that the
colour scheme is
completely different to
each other as in mine I
have used the colour
scheme from the players
kit which I wanted to do
for the front cover, and in
the existing website they
have gone for a very
simplistic colour scheme
which would be grey and
white as they contrast
well with each other
In my opinion I think that there are things which are
similar but at the same time there are many which are
different from each other , I feel like the main difference
would be that way in which that the website in general is
presented to the audience.
5. Comparison
• My final project compared to my initial plans is quite different as I have said that the magazine would be aimed towards 24-44 year olds which isn't
correct as I want it to be aimed towards every age because I want everyone to be able to view it, as well something else which is different compared
to my initial plans would be that I was planning on making the front cover the picture of an athlete in either basketball or football and then make the
colour scheme the same as the players kit, which I haven't done as I couldn’t get a picture of player which I liked , because I don’t have the ability to
contact any kind of footballers or basketballer to take a picture of them, and also they would prefer to get themselves on a big media outlet not just a
college student , and also I needed a picture which I had taken so I decided to change it to a picture of someone having there foot on top of a
football which made it impossible to make the colour scheme around the shoe and the ball so I decided against it and completely changed the design
which I had planned of making because I thought that it would look better if I changed it drastically, as I felt that beforehand it was very boring and
wouldn’t look as good as I could get it. Something which I think that I did which I had planned on doing for the final project would be that I have
made sure that I have made it quite simple because I wanted the simplicity because with some other magazines which I have seen online they are
either very detailed or simple, which I have taken into my idea but with the simple front cover I have made there are things which I could improve if I
where to do a similar project for the FMP It would help me in the future as even though I may not decide to do the exact same thing I could do
something which needs the same kind of effort into making it or the detail or lack of detail which you would want. Also something else that I have
made the same would be the font which I have chosen in the planning because I really liked some of them and then others I wasn’t that interested in,
the main font which I have tried to use throughout the website, front cover and the DPS is “The Blacksword” because it thought that It is very fancy
and also it stands out because I looks very classical. A problem which occurred during the making of the different pages was that I sometimes found
that when trying to copy things on Photoshop I would sometimes miss things out because they would be very small so I would barely be able to see
them but once I had copied them to a different layer they where easy to spot when trying to change some things, but overall I felt that I enjoyed
each different method to edit my work because besides this I only had another problem with InDesign as in the college some of the computers would
work with the type of InDesign which caused me to try and restart it or work on something else while waiting to go to another lesson where the
computers would work with what I needed.
What have I learnt during this rotation
• While making these Different things to do with print I have learned many different things which would include learning how to use both InDesign and
Wix as I haven’t used either of them before, one thing InDesign which I have learnt which will help in the future would be how to place Images in a
certain area when creating a box which you can place the image in then edit it, also something else which helps would be that you can link InDesign
and Photoshop together which means you can edit something on Photoshop and then it will effect the same image on InDesign which I thought was
a really good touch to the tools which you can have as I haven’t seen this kind of thing before in any kind of Adobe piece of software. Something else
which I have learnt about during the print rotation would be that different kind of names for things on the front cover which I didn’t know before the
main one being a masthead which is the title of the magazine which I didn’t know.
6. Front cover
For my initial Front cover I had thought of using the ball on the left but
photoshoping a realistic ball on top of it because It was a child's ball before
hand which I didn’t think would work that well so I tried to Photoshop it but I
could get It to work because the grass in front of is wouldn’t work managing
to kind of rub it out because you could see the other ball behind the grass
which was a completely different colour which didn’t have the same kind of
effect which I was hoping for so after some experimentation I decided to
scratch the idea of changing the ball and go on the internet and look for
different kind of effects which I could use to make it look good and I found one
which looked very good and decided to make my own version of it which
came out very well in my opinion because with it having see through text with
slight added colour makes the ball look somewhat better than before hand
because although you can still tell that it’s a child's ball. Once I had finished
with the Powerful text effect I moved on to adding things to it which would
include a cover line, blob and a barcode, with these different things added it
made the Front cover look better because they added more to it as with the
blob I think that it helps with the colouring because I don’t really have many
other colours so I wanted to add something which would make it stand out
Something else which I had to take into consideration when making the front
cover would be showing people what the whole magazine would be about
which I have shown very well because that is my whole design because you
can visually see that it is going to be based around football and sports.
7. DPS
For the process in which I made my double page would be that I started of with a
base image of the PSG front three and I continued to cut them out by using the
quick select tool which helped me to get each individual part of them but I
managed to miss out a section of each of the players which would be the number
on there shorts which I had only realised once I had completely finished the image
and I didn’t really want to go back through the whole process again to make sure
that I included that specific section of the image. But although this happened it
didn’t bother me because with the final image you cant tell whether or not that
numbers are cut out or not because the image behind it is the exact same which
helps my work. After I had managed to cut out the players I went onto paste it onto
the same picture and made the gradient of the background black and white and the
image which I had cut out increased saturation which made the effect that
everything is dark and the 3 players are bright and which the outline it makes them
stand out more because it still works with the black and white theme. The reason
which I decided to this kind of effect was because I wanted them to stand out and
also at the same time to work with the rest of right hand side which is very plain
and simple being black and white. For the last second of the DPS I had to go on
InDesign and add the text to the right hand side , with the text I have talked about
each individual player and then as collective talking about different stats which they
have accumulated in the Ligue 1 season, I managed to get the majority of the stats
from the internet on different which really helped as I don’t think I would have
managed to right as much. This is my final design for my DPS I think that It is very
good but there are things which I think that I could have added which would be to
make the right hand side page more detailed in the way it is layed out because all I
have is text there.
8. WebsiteFor my website my initial plan was to make it very plain by making it just black and white
and I realized that it wouldn’t look very good although it is plain and simple, but I
thought myself that this doesn’t show what kind of work I would enjoy making so I
decided against my initial planning and changed it to a style which I liked which although
once again is simple it has little more depth than I was going to have with my flat plans,
because with my flat plans I have initially thought of having just the masthead and an
image for the pages and I wanted to add something else so on some of the pages I have
added little tabs which will redirect them to different pages which I thought was a cool
idea instead of having to go back and forth trying to find the right page you where
looking for. There where different stages when making my website beginning with the
flat plans for my website because I didn’t know what I had to include so as you can see
on the left there are the flat which look different from my actual website because for my
main page I got rid of the blob because I wanted the user to have to look around the
website to find things which would help them, then I moved on towards finding images
which would work well with the kind of magazine I am trying to show to my audience
which would be sports which I think I portrayed very well as I have decided to go with a
sports icon with some of the pages main design because for my front page I went with
R9 Ronaldo who is a ex-Brazilian footballer and because with my front cover I couldn’t
get the kit to work with the colours I decided on this one I would make sure that I would
get the colour scheme to match with players which I have managed to do, because I have
gone with the brazil flag colours which I think works very well with the rest of the
website. Because I have gone with the brazil flag colours through out the majority of the
website. Once I had came up with a colour scheme I moved onto another page which
you can see on the left which shows two different options on the page which would be
basketball and football, and with these little tabs if you click on them you get moved to
another page and then another tab which lets you go back. Overall for my website I think
that it came out well but there will always be things which I could improve on which one
would be the simplicity in my website because I think that I made it too simple in not
adding enough information and leaving many spaces blank so in the future if I make
another website I need to make sure that try and put a lot of information into my work
which I hadn’t done for this time around.
