PEACE MY HEART Peace, my heart, let the time for the parting be sweet. Let it not be a death but completeness. Let love melt into memory and pain into songs. Let the flight through the sky end in the folding of the wings over the nest. Let the last touch of your hands be gentle like the flower of the night. Stand still, O Beautiful End, for a moment, and say your last words in silence. I bow to you and hold up my lamp to light you on your way. ~ Rabindranath Tagore

In Loving Memory of Ronnie Mena
3/7/14 – 6/9/79
Submitted by Sandra Mena
On March 7th 2014 my son Ronnie was
murdered. Our family hearts have been
shattered and we miss him so much.
Justice has prevailed and the defendant
was convicted of 1st degree murder, he
received a double life sentence only
eligible for parole when he is 81 years
old. On September 12 we will be able to
face the killer and I am strong enough
to let him know the impact he has caused our family. Ronnie my son you’re so special. We
love you and miss you every minute of the day and night. Love you baby
In 2007, Congress designated September 25 as the "National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims." This special day gives us the chance to honor our nation’s murder victims and pray for surviving family members whose lives were forever changed by an act of violence. While our actions today cannot change the horrific past, it is my hope that our shared efforts will, at the very least, seek to remind us of the common bond we share as Americans. Their loss is our loss, and their pain is our pain. We must never forget. San Bernardino County District Attorneys’ Office online memorial boards is to do just that—honor the memories of those who lost their lives to a senseless act of violence in San Bernardino County. If you would like to have your loved one's photo placed on our online memorial board, please send us one digital image along with the name of your loved one, date of birth and date of passing to clee@sbcda.org. Our memorial only dates back to 2011 when the District Attorney's website was revamped; however, if your loved one's date of passing is prior to 2011, you are also invited to submit your photos and be included in the memorial. The image must be at least 230 pixels wide and 290 pixels high (230x290). We will update this page once a year on September 25. Remember to submit a picture of your Loved One
CAMP GOOD GRIEF (SVP)
Camp Good Grief-Special Victims Program (SVP) is a joint effort between the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office Bureau of Victim Services and Loma Linda University Medical Center Children's Hospital. The 3-day grief camp is geared toward homicide/suicide and is for children ages 10-16 who have experienced a violent death in their family. Campers board a bus at the Ronald McDonald House in Loma Linda and head to Camp Cedar Falls in the San Bernardino Mountains for a three-day camp and grief therapy experience.
At camp the children participate in game and team building activities and therapeutic group activities designed to help them learn and understand how to cope with the grief over the violent death of their loved one. This camp has been so successful that it has been expanded to include Camp Good Grief - Special Victims Program Teen Retreat. It will be held annually and provides grief services for teens ages 14-18 who previously participated in Camp Good Grief - SVP and whose lives have been positively impacted by camp. It will be a combination of learning advanced grief management skills as well as a training camp for future Camp Good Grief Peer Counselors. Camp is free of charge to all campers and camperships are funded by unclaimed victim restitution. Therapists and interns from Loma Linda Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic, Loma Linda Child Life Specialists and District Attorney's Office Victim Advocates donate their time to the camp. The Bureau of Victim Services and Loma Linda University Children's Hospital have pledged to continue fundraising activities, presentations to service groups, and outreach events so they may continue hosting future Camp Good Grief-SVP programs.

A 20yr. old SoCal Gas Co. Meter Reader,
Fatally Shot in the Line of Service in Rialto, CA
On Tuesday August 26th, I attended a farewell get-together for Sister Sue Reif,OSF, Restorative Justice Director for the Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino. Sister Sue has been a big part of FFMV for that past 4yrs. I have learned so much! I’m proud to have attended and participated in Ministry to Survivors of Homicide workshops which includes the two day training “Healing the Trauma of Death Due to Murder, being a part of Healing Retreats, Healing Masses, Healing Vigils and attending a 3day workshop where I was trained to facilitate a 10week week workshop “A Journey Towards Healing”, Sister Sue has been dedicated to seek justice, to bring hope, and healing to all those affected by crime and suicide. I’m proud to be on this dedicated team and will continue with the new director Marciano Avilla.
Every November 10th would be about Jen’s death, this year it will be a celebration of Jen’s life!
I will continue to add to the slide show/picture board’s through-out the year, so send me your loved ones picture along with the attached release form, so I can include your loved one on the picture boards and monthly in remembrance boards.
Send me your outcome of your court process or status of your case and I will post on our newsletter.
I continue to pray for the families of the victims and surviving victims for
PEACE, HOPE and JUSTICE!
My beautiful Jen…..I can no longer…See you with my eyes…Touch you with my hands…
But I will feel you in my heart….Forever…Love, Mom
Thoughtfully,
Rose

Coping with loss can be very difficult, but it's important not to bottle up your feelings. Reading a thoughtful poem, and perhaps even writing one of your own, can help you express your grief and begin working through it.

~ Rabindranath Tagore Resources and Additional Support Services San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office of Victim Witness Centers: San Bernardino (909) 387-6540 Rancho Cucamonga: (909) 945-4241* Victorville/Desert area: (760)552-6947 Riverside County District Attorney’s Office of Victim Witness Centers: Riverside: (951) 955-5450 Murrieta: (951) 304-5680 * Banning: (951) 922-7130 * Indio: (760) 863-8408 *Los Angeles County District Attorney's Victim Witness Assistance Program offices: Pomona: 909) 620-3381 *Life.After.Uncivil.Ruthless.Acts. 323-816-9651 www.laurala.org * WINGS OF JUSTICE – Website www.murdermislabeledsuicide.com/WingsofJustice *Women Against Gun Violence – 310-204-2348 www.wagv.org *www.CrimeVictims.gov—public awareness Web site * H.E.A.L. • 8. In Loving Memory of Ronnie Mena 3/7/14 – 6/9/79 Submitted by Sandra Mena On March 7th 2014 my son Ronnie was murdered. Our family hearts have been shattered and we miss him so much. Justice has prevailed and the defendant was convicted of 1st degree murder, he received a double life sentence only eligible for parole when he is 81 years old. On September 12 we will be able to face the killer and I am strong enough to let him know the impact he has caused our family. Ronnie my son you’re so special. We love you and miss you every minute of the day and night. Love you baby
  • 9. Remember to submit a picture of your Loved One CAMP GOOD GRIEF (SVP) Camp Good Grief-Special Victims Program (SVP) is a joint effort between the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office Bureau of Victim Services and Loma Linda University Medical Center Children's Hospital.
