refer to the wide variety of organisms on
earth.

Scientists estimate that there are about
10 to 100 millions kinds of organisms on
earth.
It is not possible to study each and every
organism that exist today.
Scientists sort organisms into groups in
order to study them effectively

The sorting of organisms into groups is called
classification of organisms.
Scientists use the similarities and differences
among organisms to classify them.
- Organisms with the same characteristics are
placed together in same group.
- Each group is then further divided into smaller
and even smaller groups.
- The smaller the group, the more similarities
there are.
