STAR TOPOLOGY
Connect a computer to Server

2. TO MAKE A STAR TOPOLOGY
Students asked to make a star topology in 2 hours. The connection must be settle before 3
o’clock. Before starting the connection, students are alreadly given their own work to smooth
the wiring process until connection to the server.
1.30 pm
4 laptops were set up to connect to the access point. 2 laptops from CP3T18 and another
2 laptops from CP3T17. It was handle by 4 students to make the wiring or connection. The 4
laptops act as a server and the rest act as a client. The other students asked to find their tutorial
(wireless network connection) and all types of windows used by each students were listed.

3. 1.43 pm
After 13 minutes the connection to the access point still set up. They took a long time
to set up the wired connection between the laptops and the access point because they must to
arrange the wire in orderly to smooth the wiring process. Besides, all the student want to
handle the wiring process because the student that should handle it don’t know how the wiring
process should be causes the process disturbed and took a longer time. After 7 minutes,they
still struggling how to connect the laptops with the access point.

4. 2.07 pm
Connection to the access point was set up but only two laptops were connected. The
other laptops cannot connect because it used the different types of windows which is not
Windows 7 Home Premium. If the server is using Windows 7 Home Premium, the other laptops
should use the same to make the connection run. So, they change the laptop to the other
laptop to make the 4 laptops connect to the access point. After that, 3 laptops were connected
and only 1 laptop not connect to the access point.
2.16 pm
All the laptop connected to the access point. After that, the rest laptops need to
connect to the server(using WiFi) but it must to connect one by one so that the connection not
disturbed. The first laptop is successful connected followed by the second laptop until 7 laptop
were connected and there’s no problem occur.
2.28 pm
The connection was disturbed when they share a picture without instruction from
the lecturer. We need to wait until the connection was successful to avoid the connection
disconnected.
After that, the connection run again and 11 laptops were connected but it decrease
to 10 again because the connection disturbed. Only 11 laptops out of 33 laptops can connect to
the server and the rest couldn’t because the other laptops using different Operting System
which is differ from Windows 7 Home Permium.

5. 2.41 pm
Report do not done yet because student still finding addition information to make the
report. All the owner laptop that cannot connect to server asked to go infront and told what’s
the problem with the laptop.

3.00 pm
sharing photo was successed although its took several time to find the procedure of sharing
photo. Finally the assignment is done.

6. Problem
1. Why the connection to the access point and to the server took a longer time?
 Student didn’t know the step to connect the laptop to access point
 Doing the connection without following the instruction
 Each student want to handle the wiring process causes the student that should handle
the wiring process was lost their focus.
 Lack of cooperation between students
 Only a small number of students know how to connect a laptop to the access point and
to connect to the server
2. Why the Windows 7 cannot connect to the server ?
Some common issues that can cause these problems are:
 A wireless network adapter switch that’s not enabled
 WEP,WPA, or WPA2 security key or passphrase issues
 Cables that aren’t connected properly
 Corrupted or incompatible drivers
 Missing updates
 Network connection settings
 Hardware or software problems
3. Why Windows 7 starter cannot connect to server ?
Windows starter was the first generation of Windows 7. A lot of the newer programs
won’t run at all on it, and many types of the ones that will run won’t run very well
because the program is not supported in the Windows. That’s why it cannot connect to
the server.
