Device 1

THE BRAIN
Conceptual Sketches of the device
Working Mechanism
Also looses
its first shape
through the
process.

Main Concept

Brain shaped two-parted
device that not only solves
the problems and helps
completing the process.

Gives the
sense of
individualism
and
belonging.
People Involved

Newcomers

Parents
Problems Addressed

By leading the
user, make the
process easy to
follow and
decreases the
time duration
spent to register.

By leading the
user to different
places and
events at the
campus
decreases the
probability of
getting bored.

By separating the
newcomer and
the family, avoids
the family’s
involvement to
the management
side of the
process.

By making the
user attend
events at the
campus makes
them develop
connections with
the university.
The Workflow
• The device is given to the users (students and families) at the entrance of the campus by
the security.

• The device will be divided into two and each side will get their part. While the parents are
leaded to another part of the campus where there will find a graduates table for them to
communicate with the graduate students of Koc University, a cocktail where they will spend
time and a guided campus tour.

• On the other hand, the newcomer will be guided to the registration process area by the
device. The device will have map that shows where the user is so that avoids being lost
and saves time by this way.

• The device asks questions from time to time that are answered by using the touchable
screen, by this way it understands if the student is bored or needs help. If the user is bored,
the device automatically guides him/her to an event at the campus. If the user needs help,
the device directs the mentors.
• During the normal flow of the process, when handing a document to another place is
needed such as YapıKredi, ELC or health center, the device not only shows where to
bring the document and also leads to an event when turning back to the process so
that the newcomer can spent time in the campus as a Koc University student.

• During the process if the student wants to see their parents with one button they can
sent a message and meet the families.

• At each desk/step of the process, the brain shaped part of the device is put inside a
machine that cuts it into pieces; by this way the brain looses its shape and takes the
shape of the horn, which is the symbol of the KU.

• At the end of the process, the device leads the newcomer to the family and the horn
shaped part of the device stays with the student and the other parts are given back
before exiting the campus.

KULE: KOC UNIVERSITY LEARNING &
ENTERTAINING

process
fun.

Concept

KULE, fluid wristlet, helps
both parents and
newcomers to solve their
problems during the
registration process.

Problems Addressed

By leading the
user, make the
process easy to
follow and
decreases the
time duration
spent to register.

By leading the
user to different
places and
events at the
campus
decreases the
probability of
getting bored.

By making the
parents use the
device it satisfies
their need to ask
questions and
lead them to
attend campus
tours to amuse
them in a way..

By making the
user attend
events at the
campus makes
them develop
connections with
the university.
The Workflow
• The device is given to the users (students and families) at the entrance of the campus by
the security.

• Will start to work automathically and give quick tips about where the newcomers are such as while
passing through the health center or portal of knowledge (bilim kapısı) and gym, the device will name
them to make he/she familiar with the places in the campus. (you can see the health center on the right
side for example)

• In front of the gym, parents and newcomers will leave each other and the devices will guide them to go
to the particular place they need to go first.

• Parents will go to campus tour, and then graduate table, and then they will have a free time to ask
questions and get answers from the device and finally they will go to the cocktail where they can meet
with their children. Parents can ask any questions to the device by voiced or written and get the best
possible answer. If they don’t satisfy by the answer then they can call the available student worker by the
device and ask the question or if needed they can call he/she to talk face to face.
• Student workers will able to see the calls from parents. The questions of the parents will be
recorded to device in this way the new questions (not thought before)coming from parents
can be reorganized for the next year. (answers can be added to device)

• In the mean time the newcomers will get into the gym and start to registration. For each
table they can choice the particular option in the screen of the device (such as bank
documents) and the device will show (in written) the needed documents to them. So they
can prepare themselves.

• After finishing all the document issues they will guided to the area where they need to meet
with other newcomers and take pictures of new friends with their device, and have fun.
(There will be winner for the one who met with the greater number of people)

• After that they will go to campus tour together and take creative pictures and download
them to the device’s app where all the photos regarding KOC university can be found.

• At the end there will be a winner (a group of two or three or more ) which will be announced
at the cocktail where the newcomers will meet with their parents.
Device 3

THE RAM HORN
Conceptual Sketches of the device
Working Mechanism
Main
Concept

This is a ram horn
shaped tool that helps
newcomers complete
their registration
process by their own as
fast as they can while
giving them the feeling
of belonging to Koç with
its features and shape.
People Involved

Newcomers
Problems Addressed

By the audial and
visual help, it helps
the newcomer to
complete the process
as fast as they can.

By the music played
and the lighting
fractions of the horn,
it gives a sense of
movement and
entertainment.

By its shape and the
music played
simultaneously with
all the other
newcomers' devices,
there is an harmony
and a feeling of
belonging.
The Workflow
• This device is given to the newcomers by the security when they enter the
campus. It will be stated that it is for the use of the newcomer for the
registration process only, not for the parents.

• As the whole family enters the campus, the device begins to talk by the help of
the speaker positioned at the center of the device. This is an audial guide
explaining the working flow of the device.

• It is very simple: Each segment of the horn represents a step throughout the
registration process. As the student completes a step, segment that represents
that step illuminates.

• Illumination starts from the outer segments and continues towards the inner
segments. When all the steps are done, the device will be fully illuminated.
• But the function of the speaker is not only to give the using instructions.

• Throughout the process, it helps you by saying what is next, for example if you
should give your high-school documents to a desk, it will say “high school
documents to desk 4” and so on.

• When not leading you for the next step, device will play a calm music through
its speaker. The same music will be played from all the other registration
devices; there will be an harmony amongst the newcomers so that the feeling
of belonging both with the other students and the school can be created.

• When the final step is done, the device is illuminated and there will be a
congratulation message for the student, stating that the newcomer can keep
the device as a souvenir and after that a joyous music will start, stating that
the process is over and now the newcomer is officially a university student.
Thank you.
