1 Running Head: Phase One 2 Phase One Employee Behavior Standards in the Workplace My Name Business Ethics Professor November 20th 2015 An ethical issue can best be described as a situation that requires a person or organization to choose between alternatives that must be evaluated as right (ethical) or wrong (unethical). Audra Bianca analyses employee behavior standards in the workplace and ethical issues that arise. A unique ethical issue that is gaining momentum in workplaces all over is the use of social media. The use of modern platforms of communication such as cell phone messages, social media posts and emails has gained momentum in the modern society and can be used both appropriately and inappropriately in the workplace. Such can be used to make offensive gestures or comments and spread gossip to hurt a person’s reputation. Nowadays, many organizations are introducing rules that govern the use of social media by their employees. Ethical dilemmas on the other hand are situations in which there is a choice to be made between two options, neither of which resolves the situation in an ethically acceptable way. An ethical dilemma mentioned in this case is employing friends or relatives. One of the biggest dilemmas with this is that most of us don’t see it as a problem since we have relied on these “connections” maybe during their job hunting. Close friends and relatives provide unmatched loyalty but a problem can arise in their competence. To reduce the backlash and possible hostility the recruitment process should be based on merit and work experience. If one is qualified for the job, the question of cronyism or nepotism won’t be as aggressive. References 1. Bianca, A. (2015). Employee Behavior Standards in the Workplace. 2.
