1. Phoenix Mastery Assessment Portal
• We DO NOT use Infinite Campus to record grades.
• The Mastery Assessment Portal (M.A.P.) is the online student assessment system
unique to Phoenix MS.
• Parents can login and/or get a weekly report emailed. All users can get
assessment alerts.
• This is the only way for students and parents to view grades (we do not issue
hard copy interims or report cards unless requested by parents).

16. 1. Separate the types of assignments.
2. Separate behavior and academics
Two major differences in the way we assess
students at Phoenix :
17. Mastery Learning Natural Learning Process
Introductory
present new concepts / skills
Practice
students have opportunities to
develop their understanding of
the new concepts / skills
Mastery
students demonstrate their solid
understanding of material
presented.

18. Separating Work Behaviors from Academics
• Attempt to give parents a more complete picture of the individual
strengths and weaknesses of their children.
• We also understand that work behaviors are important!

Mastery Assessment
• The goal for a mastery assignment is “M”; Phoenix teachers reserve
an “E” (or check plus) for work that “knocks our socks off”.
• DO NOT equate E, M, P, and NP with A, B, C, D…this is not a
traditional grading scale that just uses different letters.
Tips for Success:
36. Mastery Assessment Portal
Mastery Assessment
• Late work and assignments that are not at mastery do not go away;
students will still be responsible for current work while they are
working to catch up on work that is tardy.
• This can become problematic very, very quickly! Keeping up with
work and honoring deadlines is crucial to academic success at
Phoenix.
Tips for Success:
Note: Unlike traditional assessment programs, assignments not at mastery
at the end of the quarter will carry over to the next 9 weeks.

• Academic Option and Learning Extensions time should be used to
revise or complete work.
• Use your time on the weekends wisely. If you need the time on the
weekend to catch up, try to get up early to complete work. Leave
time for YOU!

• TALK to your parents and teachers. We really do care about what you
think!
• Be selfish about your education. If you don’t understand, make us
explain until you “get it”.
• Call us if you need help. Have your parents help if you’re afraid to
call. One phone call can relieve a lot of stress!
