4. My Perspective on Lopez's Quote
“ Assessment is not
about you as a
teacher; it is about
your students”
( Lopez, 2013, “Assessment”, para. 6)
As teachers, we must
put our students first
by having a student-
centered classroom
where they can be
productive in their
work. With this in
mind, this will prepare
them for the real
world they will
encounter.
6. Defending our Assessment
As a future teacher-librarian, one of my
hats would be that of a manager. As a
manager, I will meet with teachers to help
with curriculum planning. There are 4
questions to consider when it comes giving
assessment. They are:
Why are you participating in the assessment that you use
with students? Can you share in explicit detail the value
that you find in each assessment?Do you participate in
assessments that you find no value in for students? Are
you using an assessment you have no idea how to deliver,
but are afraid to ask for help with? ( Lopez, 2013)
( Lopez, 2013, “ Defending our Assessment Practices”, para. 1).
Because the purpose of these questions could
easily be misunderstood by anyone in the
profession of teaching, I would implement these
questions for my future position as a teacher-
librarian by taking these questions to the teachers
that I would meet with as food for thought.
That way, in considering their thought, then answer,
they can apply these thoughts when making
curriculum planning.
7. The Value of the Four Questions
The value of the four questions will help me to
help the teachers as well as the students when
making suggestions about curriculum planning.
Taking these questions into account and actually
put knowledge with them ( actually thinking and
then applying) will help me as a teacher-librarian
meet the needs of the students as well as the
teachers. Therefore, these questions will be a part
of my endeavors that will help me cater to the
needs of the teachers and students.
8. Students Partner in Assessment
I have not the pleasure of experiencing any
at the present, however, from the
perspective of a future teacher-librarian, I
am hopeful that I will be assisting
successfully with my students in the
perspective of assessment. Including
students in the assessment will help to have
a better outcome because I will know much
more about that student.
