2. Existing Product – Front Cover
Masthead
The font style is serif and
gives off a ‘vintage’ feel to
the magazine which can
make it seem more mature
to the audience
Location Photography
Looking at the
composition of the photo,
it is clear that this shot
was taken on some form
of field. Looking at the
stunningly clear blue sky,
it could be suggested that
this portion has been
Photoshopped.Lack of text
The lack of text on the front
cover makes the main
image the primary focus. As
this magazine is targeted
towards people who are
interested/in the media
industry, making the
photography aspect the
main focus makes sense.
House Style
The house style of the
‘aesthetica’ is very
minimalist and
contemporary compared

Spread
Photography
Looking at the composition and the
way in which this shot is laid out,
the photographer has framed the
subject with the rocks making them
the frontal focus. This is a very
interesting in which the way it is
framed as it also gives the
appearance that the rocks are
acting as a vignette surrounding
the subject, closing in on them.
Text
Continuing the same theme as the
front cover, in terms of text, it is
consistent in keeping the
minimalist approach keeping the
focus on the media. They have
used the same fonts keeping it
flowing.

Spread
Layout
The layout and
composition of this
double page spread is
aesthetically pleasing to
the reader as it keeps
following the minimalist
idea. They have chosen
to have the door image
take over the entire left
page making that the
main focus of the double
page.
Photography
The photography in this double page spread is very much
landscape focused. The shot on the right utilises lighting very
well in co-operation with the fog/smoke.
5. Existing Product – Audience Profile

6. Existing Product – Front Cover
Masthead
The font style is serif and
gives off a ‘vintage’ feel to
the magazine which can
make it seem more mature
to the audience. There is
also the use of a
combination of different
colours (pink + white) which
not only contrast each other
but can also connote this
being targeted towards a
female audience with pink
being the stereotypical
colour representing women.
Art/Illustrations
The art style for this
magazine is very
much illustration
focused.
Throughout the
magazine, there is a
significant amount
of art. For the front
cover, they have
chosen to have the
main image be of a
woman. The art
style is very
simplistic but it
works as they have
kept it consistent
throughout.

Art Style
A common theme with this magazine issue is that
they use a lot of hand-drawn pictures rather than
photographs which can add a personal touch. The
drawing style itself is very simple with block
colours being used frequently rather than a
massive shade range top add highlights and
shadows
Page Layout
The way in which the page is laid
out is having the main ‘image’
taking over the entire left page and
the article on the right page along
with a few more illustrations.
Colour Palette
For this double page, the colour
palette mainly consists of: navy
blue, red, pink and white. The blue
and red contrast with each other
but with the addition of the white, it
could connote the UK flag?
Social Media Icons
One thing used in this article is the
inclusion of the social media icons
correlating with instragram mainly.
This is due to the idea that people
are nowadays focused on their
likes online and the figures rather
than the feelings
8. Existing Product – Double Page
Spread
Layout
The layout of this double page spread follows
along with the use of the phone cord. What they
have done when creating this article is by having
the yellow cord flow through the pages, it
connects them visually.
Colour Palette
The colour palette for this specific
page is different than others as there
is only one primary colour which is
the yellow which connotes happiness
and joy. By using this colour in the
article it could suggest and hint to
the reader that there will be
something positive included or a
form of optimism
Photography
The photography used in this example has a
very simple approach with the focal point
being the ‘retro’ phone and its cord. To match
the colour of the phone, they have chosen to
also have the background be the same
colour however the object is still clear.
9. Existing Product – Audience Profile
Straight from the title, it is immediately cleat that this magazine is
directed towards the teen ages with them being called
‘TEENBreathe’.
Looking at gender, this magazine is targeted towards women. This is
shown through the use of colours with pink being very prominent
throughout.
When reading the variety of articles in this issue of
TEENBreathe, a common thing between them is that
they focus a lot of their articles around social media and
basically how to not let it consume your life.
It seems that they typical reader
enjoys to live a more carefree life,
belong to the ABC1 nrs social
grade and the average age being
from 16-mid 20s possibly going
into early 30s.
10. Research Analysis
What common features do the researched products have?
One thing I found common between all my researched products was
the use of fonts and similar colour schemes/palettes. The
magazines I researched used more sans serif fonts over serif. The
reason why they might have chosen to do this is because sans serif
fonts tend to look more professional as well as ‘classy’.
What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
One of the aspects of the research that I will be including in my work
will be the consideration of layout and composition. This can be for
picture position, how text is aligned, how to utilise double pages etc.
