3. DEFINITION
• Is a style in which individuals express their feelings and opinions
and advocate for their needs in a way that violates the rights of
others.
• Aggressive communication refers to physical or verbal hostility
expressed in a way intended to deliberately hurt others.
4. • Thus, aggressive communicators are verbally and/or physically
abusive.
• An aggressive communicator is born of low self-esteem (Often
caused by past physical and emotional abuse) wounds and
feelings of powerlessness, unhealed emotional.

SPEECH
The verbal characteristics of aggressive communication
• shouting
• yelling/ demanding
• Commanding
• blaming
• being critical
• being verbally abusive.

PEOPLE
• Behaviour: Express their feelings and wants as though any other view is
unreasonable or stupid. Dismiss, ignore or insult the needs and opinions of others.
• Non-verbal: Make themselves large and threatening, eye contact is fixed and
penetrating, voice is loud.
9. • Beliefs: Their needs are more important and more justified than those of others.
They have rights, while other people don’t. Their contributions are more valuable.
• Emotions: Angry or powerful at the time and victorious when they win. Afterwards
they are remorseful, guilty or feel self-hatred for hurting others
• Goal: Win at any expense to others. Gain control over others

11. CAUSES OF AGGRESSIVE
COMMUNICATION
• Usually, your style of communication is what was most common in your family as
you were growing up.
• So, this means that an aggressive communication style is a learned behavior, which
is good news because you can change it.
12. • Aggressive communication is also sometimes caused by social anxiety or personality
disorders and sometimes where one feels like is bullied or victimized.
• These conduct disorder include intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional and
defiant disorder (ODD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), post-
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Etc.
• In these cases, you eventually feel the need to stand up for yourself.
